CZ 457 Bolt Stop

When I screw in my Mag well I have to avoid tightening it very far otherwise the bolt end interferes with
the bolt and impedes the slide completely. Why is this? Did I lose a washer?
I refer to the the bolt to the rear of the mag well.

nope. just a trait of the 457. Be careful how you tighten the magwell. They crack really easy.

I wonder if adding a plastic/teflon washer between the magwell and the bolt would 1) provide the needed clearance and 2) help reduce the chance of cracking the plastic magwell by spreading the bolt head load as you tighten.

tommeboy is definitely right on the magwell being easy to break by overtightening. With that being said a screw/bolt being long enough to cause interreference is not correct and needs addressed by some means. A washer would be my first thought per epags1 and if not that shorten the offending bolt. As my first boss ever told me... "I don't give a crap what you do but you better do something."

Sooner or later the plastic mag well is going to crack or split . I replaced mine with a metal one. Added the extended mag release also.

It's hard to say without looking at it. I've never had the issue in any of the 15+ 457's I've worked on. There is no washer present as can be seen in the attached parts breakdown. Assuming your in a factory stock ( i.e. have clearance for it), you might do as @epags1 suggests and try a washer under the bolt head to shorten the bolt. I think I'd try a nylon /rubber wasser myself. As others have said, don't overtighten. The poly mag well is plenty adaquate for the design but can crack if installed with a ham fist.

I haven't owned a CZ457 for a few months now, but my one certainly had no bother with that screw.
Have you put the screws back in their original holes? Maybe the short screw you need is now fitted to the front instead of the back?

You are probably right the schematic shows two different screws....a front (#23) and a back (#24).

How I tighten the 2 bolts is to just seat them. Meaning I screw it in till I feel the bolt seat on the magwell. I do not tighten anymore or the magwell get distorted and you will have problems cycling the bolt.

I installed my $50 aluminum mag well and everything is working as it should.

I hear it quite often from fellow competitors “That plastic mag well is crap and it’s gonna break sooner or later”. I’ve never broken one but for the last 3 years I’ve been swapping them out just for peace of mind. I’ve worked on a few guns owned by others and almost always found the screws were way too tight.

I've heard of them breaking but... Have 5 currently and been through more than what I have now looking for "The" ARA Factory rifle. Never broken one or actually seen one broken with the guys I shoot with.

Is it... "If it ain't broke twist harder?"

The bolt stop is on the side of the action- never seen one of those broke…

Yet seen monkeys break the complete bolt lever/knob off… go figure-…

OK... It must be Karma as I just broke a plastic magwell. I've had at least a dozen 457s and never had a problem but this morning I finally figured out how to screw one up and break it. All it takes is to leave an empty mag in the rifle and shove it across the driveline hump in your floorboard. Mag catches the floorboard forcing it backwards and shatters the magwell. I can NOW certainly see how someone shooting one of the action sports could very easily smash the magwell (and their chances of a good finish).

Funny how you can be reminded that just because you can't see the problem doesn't mean there isn't a problem.
