CZ 455 Precision Trainer

My 455 American wouldn't shoot worth a crap when I bought it lightly used for cheap. I suspect that's why the guy sold it. I put the 20" Varmint barrel on it and put in in the Boyds TactiCool stock and gave it the YoDave trigger kit. Still didn't shoot worth a crap. So, I bought some bronze bushings (at Lowe's, desperation setting in) sized appropriately for pillar bedding and installed them. Groups improved but nothing near what I wanted. It languished in my safe for 10 years until I got my two 457s and researched tricks to get more accuracy from them. Then I pulled the 455 out for one last try. I torqued the rear screw at 30 and the front screw at 40 inch pounds respectively and WOW! She immediately outshot both 457s with SK Long Range Match which is the ammo that all 3 prefer. The 457s will be getting pillars over the summer and then I can get serious and maybe join some friendly competitions when the weather cools some.

I backed my screws off to 25 inch pounds today but can't make it to the club till later in the week. I will take my torque wrench with me when I go so I can play with the action screws and maybe find the sweet spot.

On a side note, I looked at the Yo Dave trigger kits. I don't seem to understand the different "shims" that come with the kit Can someone explain it a little to me?

The shims are metal tubes like little sections of pipe that have different wall thicknesses. They are color coded to identify the thickness. The shim goes over the front trigger pin and takes up the distance between the pin and the sear. The thicker the shim, the more creep they take out before allowing the sear to release. I'm attaching a link where the RED shim is being installed in a 455. Looking closely you can see the RED shim in place. This is the link that I used when I installed my YoDave kit 10 yeas ago and again recently when I made changes. You may have to swap from one shim to another until you get your trigger where you want it. Same for the trigger spring. Hope this helps you.....

Kind of a dumb answer but I don't remember. I'll have to take the stock off to look. I want to say it does but I honestly don't remember.

Granted, mine is not in a Manners stock but if I had not pillar bedded it AND played with torque on the action screws, I would have never gotten the accuracy that I get now.

I have lots of SK standard. Couple of bricks of CCI SV as well. Three different kinds of Eley, some Aquila Match (?) and lots of other brands, Remington, Winchester ect. Not any really high dollar stuff though. I've only shot it twice so its way to early to pass any judgements on it. Both of those days weren't the best days for rimfire either.

I went to Yo Daves web site, filled out all the info to order a trigger kit @$17.95ish with $10.42 shipping. Then went to checkout and the total was $37.42. Somehow another $10 got added to the total. Needless to say I cancelled the order until I can figure out whats going on.

I just went to the website and selected the kit and got the same situation. From the order page to the payment page an extra $10 gets charged and nothing shows what or why. Maybe send them an email.

I sent Yo Dave an email. Maybe get an explanation why there is an extra 10 bucks dded to the price.

On a different note, I backed my action screws down to 20 inch pounds and accuracy improved. The rifle shot really well with SK standard, not so well with CCI SV. I was hoping it might be the other way around as I have two bricks of the CCI. But my T1X shoots the CCI pretty good IIRC.

The next time you take the action screws out see if the action will rock up and down from front to rear like a see-saw. A high place in the stock between the action screws will cause that and I had a 22 a long time ago that caused me grief until I found that. It caused the action to be torqued all crazy and didn't shoot worth a crap. But it was a really cheap rifle so......
