Cz 22 hornet

NEVER HAD A CZ BUT FOR MY SAVAGE MODEL 40 ITS 13.6 GRS OF LIT-GUN 30GR HP BERGER AND A 205 FED PRIMER AND FOR A HORNET IT DOES WELL 3050 FPS AND PRINTS SOME FINE GROUPS I USE IT FOR 200YDS AND IN AND IT SERVES ME WELL !!!!!

Settled on nothing but the Speer 45 grain JSP in my C-Z (and any .22 Hornet I've owned). Accurate and deadly on our big Eastern Woodchucks out to 200 yards. In fact, due to health issues and not yet replacing my (sold) Hornet dies, lately I've been running some discontinued years-old Federal factory ammo loaded with these bullets in my new 527; still able to get some 5/8 (3-shot) groups and 2800 fps. Am thinking both Lil' Gun and AA 1680 powders worked well in past handloads; never tried small pistol primers.
Also, never cared much for the too-frangible, low BC 35 gr. V-Max Hornet bullets on varmints of larger size. Although I'd not normally take a Hornet coyote hunting, if I'd happen on to one of those mangy mutts while carrying one, would much rather have heavy soft-point rounds loaded than those specific V-Maxes.

The 50gr V Max over LilGun has killed a bunch of coyotes for me. The best thwop I've ever heard!

Mines a savage but have a friend that has a CZ... we both use lil-gun powder I use the 35 gr. v-max with 13.5 grains of lil-gun.
When it hits prairie rat at just over 3000fps. it will send them as much as 6 feet in the air sometimes.:p:D. I can't remember what bullet my bud uses in his CZ but I do know it is a very accurate rifle. Try a search as I know we all have talked about the 22 Hornet a bunch in the past.:)

Has anyone tried 296 powder with 40 grain bullets? This was a recipe that I used years ago. Unfortunately I don't remember what primer I used. Any suggestions?

296 and H-110 are exactly the same powder. For my CZ Hornet, I use 110, 296 and LilGun. All with WSR primers.
You can find data on line from Hodgdon

I think most shooters use small pistol primers in the Hornet...I did when I first started out shooting my savage.
I then tried some small rifle primers in my rifle which really tightened my groups a lot. I would not have thought
that a primer change would have made such a difference but in my hornet it did. I would say try both and see
what your hornet likes. I now use rem. 71/2 primers. I'm getting 3/4 inch groups at 100yds. which I have been
happy with. The hornet is my run and gun for prairie rats and rabbits. :D
