Cutting/shortening AICS 10 rd MDT steel box magazine

I thought I'd try again:
I'm looking for a good gunsmith that can cut down a 10 rd steel MDT magazine from 10 round to 5 round. The Smith that used to do this apparently is out of business. please pm.

Can't tell you what you asked but if it's a deal to stay legal and limit the magazine capacity, you can do that by installing a pop rivet thru each side to limit the amount of rounds.

Remind me: This is an XM length mag you are trying to cut down because they don't yet make a shorter one? Is this for a chassis or a particular bottom metal? Are you aware that both Hawkins and Unknown Munitions have released their own bottom metal designs and magazines with less than 10 rnd's for Med actions?

If someone surfaces that can do this with a top drawer result, I'd be in for having one or more of my AICS mags shortened to 3 round. The 5 rounders look like a wart on a nice looking girls chin.
Edit to add that I tried one of the Hawkins mags and didn't care for the way it operated.

This is an XM length action...not a medium, not a long. I currently have a Hawkins M5 DBM for an XM action. ONLY magazines for the XM action will work.

STS, I'll post up if I get a response from a Gunsmith. I'd do a 3-4 rd as well.

Isn't an XM commonly referred to as a medium? Hawkins does have a new flush mag to fit their M5 Medium bottom metal. See mag compatibility and note they show the Hunter Flush and MDT XM 10 for the same bottom metal. Am I missing something here?

Defiance's Medium is a Rem SA footprint. Their XM is between a Rem SA and a Rem LA.
Gotcha hence the Defiance XM+ designation in the above list? I assume then a Defiance XM+ is a true medium footprint like the others listed?

I still wonder if the the new Hawkins Hunter med flush would still work since it is listed along with the MDT XM mag for the med bottom metal. Might be worth a call to them asking.

Look up "the fabrication series" on youtube. That guy loves a challenge and is an incredible welder.

^^^ For Dusty per long action question. The new Hawkins Hunter long mags have a deeper belly and aren't truly flush but close. The Unknown Munitions are better than an AICS but not as short as the Hawkins.

I don’t have one in front of me to examine, but couldn’t one fixture it in a bandsaw, cut out some length from the lower-middle portion, and TIg it back together?

Or is there taper that prevents this approach?

That’s what others have done and what I understand Kinport does as well.
