custum Mauser

I just purchased what seems to be arou nd a 1903 Spanish Mauser converted to 6mm Remington . It has a nice composite stock, floated barrel, 18x Simmons, Harris swivel bipod, Timney trigger. On the shop counter on the pod the gun is VERY stable. Everything about it is pristine . Estimated weight is 9.5# +. Im wandering what kind of accuracy to reasonably expect from it. I also handload and will be experimenting with how far off the lands the gun likes the load as I've read lots of posts saying different rifles tend to differ in this area from .005"-.020 usually.

Without knowing anything specific about it, I'd initially be pretty satisfied if it shot around 1 Moa.

Great find. I love these old guns. Wish they were still making them. They do make K98 repros.
I would not expect the greatest accuracy but if it was rebarreled and the smith did his work right you could expect sub MOA

Wow. Thanks everyone for the replies so far. Yes, it was rebarreled to accept the 6mm Remington. $400 tag. All work looks great and even the bolt looks new. Ill have to let everyone know how it goes.

Yes we def want a range report. Some more photos too. We love gun photos. It's the mane reason I come here. The reloading knowledge got me to joint the forum though.

Pics as requested. Preban colt match hbar, and 500 Mossberg i painted.

What year is it? I love Mosins. Most of my guns are Mosins ;D I think I am up to 9 now. Lol

Well ,gl Grimstod, I hear thats how it goes. Lol. Its a '43 Tula #'s matching. Its funny because guys at work all ran out and bought one when they found out what I'd discovered. They both got Izzy's, (1 of which is pitted badly) mine is very nice) problem is, I told myself if i could find a Tula, id get the Nagant pistol to go with it. Now Im going to be out another $200. Lol. I stripped, cleaned and corked it. No permanent alterations. Shot it kneeling at around 50 yards iron sites. Had 2.3" group with 6 shot group. Milsurp light ball. (Me with iron sites, I'll say its a shooter.) Lol. Cant wait to get some brass and run handloads through it.

Please have a smith check your Spanish Mauser , they tend to be soft . Do not load hot . They are known for lug set back which will cause ++ headspace and very hard bolt lift after firing a round . Better to be safe .

Bingo!!! Upon further inspection, I have found it to be a Steyr 1912. 26" barrel, headspace good. Went to the country to try it out. After sight in, at 5 0 yards, i called my shot. A certain part of the anatomy on a certain purple dinosaur. He was 2" tall and 50 yards away. My aiming point was 1/8" at best. I couldn't have drwn a bullet hole anymore precice. By far my most accurate rifle! Very happy. And everyone got a good laugh.v everyone was impressed by the frankenmauser. If i didn't think I'd get in trouble I'd post the target.

I have an old mauser 98 with a douglas 1.25 strait bbl. and double set triggers and a "curly maple br stock" that my pap carved with a hatchet and sander and it was the first gun that I shot in the .1's with for 5 shots. Its in 220 weatherby rocket. My wifes first group she shot with it was .198 for 5 shots at 100 yds. Those old rifles will shoot if the smith knows how to work them.

I believe that! I'd heard they had potential, but were Dependant on the smith work. Thank goodness mine was done right. Even with a 26" barrel.
