Custom ST1000s — Two colors

I've seen one that was fabricated by a very successful 1K shooter that was inverted for a larger footprint on his HG- flip it upside down. It required a custom rear bag wide enough to work. It was still adjustable. Of course the gain in footprint and stability was a loss in appearance with the traditional sleek design.

Yes, Charles did that. It actually was the stock rudder for his LRB, and he flipped it over.

Here's some info and videos. https://www.wheeleraccuracy.com/videos

There were some 1st generation rudders with slots at each end for some real crooked stocks lol. When I first started the rules didn't allow attachments, so we would go between the range and the mill about 6 times until tracking was perfect. And only then would we have the stock cleared. Once attachments became legal, it was a no brainer to make tracking a lot easier. It became basically standard equipment on the Deep Creek Trackers, and then the LRB after that. But you can do it to any stock as you see here. My cerus stocked ELR rig has one, and it's very effective even for that. Everything I own that's intended to be shot off bags has one.

Yeah its basically a $50 fix for a $1000 problem.
Stocks aren't cheap to begin with, composites generate heat in the curing process which can cause warpage, add in the seam from the 2 mold halves, and the mold being worn from repetitive use and a person can wind up with a lumpy banana.
Wooden stocks are subjected to temperature and humidity swings, which can also cause deflection and warpage if not sealed properly.

A picture of the little bit of body work I do on composite stocks.
1 with and 1 without rudder.
Both are a red/black marble ST1000, you can see in the pictures of the varying degree of factory "STRAIGHTNESS" or lack there of.

In other words-

Folks you're getting way more than a paint job when BC'z works on your stock. WAY MORE.

Polyester primer, the same primer I use on wood stocks. The wooden stocks take twice as mutch to get straight versus the composite.

This ST1000 was built by Zack Donovant for Zack Donovant at
Old Dominion Custom Rifles.
Lots of modifications including weight in butt and forend, she's heavy but balanced. I'm guessing 7.5 pounds.
I painted this ooriginally about 10 months ago, I stripped it back down and brought the finish back up, I gotta say stripping 1 of my paint jobs rather sucks!!
