I recently acquired a, new to me, F open rifle and I need a case for transporting from house to range. Any recommendations on a case that is not a "vault" for traveling by airplane nor a flimsy plastic case? A nice enough case to transport a 53" custom rifle. Any input appreciated. Thank you.

Choices for a rifle that length are limited, costly and extremely heavy when fully loaded. I have now switched back to soft cases for all my rifles.

Some people use both a hard case for transporting from the house to the vehicle for travel to the range/match then switch to a soft case to move from the car/SUV/PU firing line.
Provides VG protection while traveling but ease of moving to the firing line.

The padding in the CC soft case is outstanding. I use one to carry my F open rifle for every transport except air travel. Excellent quality and a couple of pockets for the bolt/eci/ etc. It also has backpack straps and a tubular compartment for a cleaning rod.

Nice case. Substantial padding, secures rifle nice and snug. Heavy duty zippers, external pockets, durable nylon material. Will accept any scoped Fclass rifle with 32" barrel plus tuner. Had mine for a while now, still in great condition.

I bought this 55" Tactical Allen. It works good but no place for the mirage shield. The Champion Choice case has great padding but has an issue with long scopes.

I am a prone shooter and at one time the Prone To Success line of soft rifle cases was very popular. The man has gone out of business. Creedmoor Sports is now making a similar, perhaps better in some ways, product. Mine will be delivered today. Our sport is supported by a cottage industry of small shops. If we don't support those people they go away.

The 52” creedmoor case says its only 10” high in the back. Is that big enough for a big f class gun with scope on it? I have a couple of the big champions choice cases and love em but also like creedmoor sports
I'm glad you asked that Dusty as I have been waiting since late October for another Champion's Choice case as they were having problems from the supplier in China even that far back. I was considering getting a Creedmoor Sports case for my F-open rifle but was not sure it will accommodate my rig. Hopefully an F-class shooter will respond.
Mr. Stevens, I just received my 60 inch case from Creedmoor today. It looks like it is sufficiently deep to accommodate a telescopic sight and wide stock. I shoot Palma and keep the sights on plus a buttplate during matches. My barrels, with or without Houle extension tubes and 30mm front sights, are typically 32 inches long so I got the bigger size. I hope that helps.

Soft cases are just wonderful until the first time you have one fall over. Then, generally speaking; you have the joy of replacing what ever expensive equipment, scope, etc, that broke...
Buy a good hard case. You can always pass it along to your favored grandchild in forty years.
