Custom rifle build??

I just bought a old Remington 700 30-06 barreled action. I'm looking to build another rifles but what. I have two 6.5 x 284. A Remington 260, a 6MM AI a 22 - 6MM AI. Just can't think of a good caliber to build.

Was thinking a 6MM X 284.

I think a 6BRA would be a good choice for you as it seems you are partial to the AI's and have experience with them.

A 243 or 6BR of some flavor. That’s what I’m missing in my safe. I love my 6.5-47 lapua but you have a 6.5-284 and 260 they do everything and faster. The other 2 calibers I have 284 and 6.5-47 lapua for F Class. The last option is a plain Jane 308 they always shoot great and lots of brass and bullets available.

I vote for a 6.5-06, maybe Ackley Improved. Mine is still in the testing stage but it's loping along at 3100 with 130 grain Golden Target. will put three in a cloverleaf at 100.

25-06AI since it is a L A. If I ever own another L A that's what it will be. I like the load data in Sierra's manual. 75 grainer running @ close to 4,000 fps is very nice.

Just sell it or trade for a short action. Having chamberings in what you listed, the standard bolt face in a long action becomes pretty boring after that. So many more options for smaller Varmint or target rounds. Could go with a magnum action too if you feel the itch to shoot long range with a lot of energy on target

Not a whole lot of difference from the Catbird and a 6mm Rem AI. And you already have everything you need for a 6-AI, just get a slow twist barrel to shoot light bullets.

The Catbird would be faster but I doubt varmints would know the difference. I easily push 75gr HP Sierra in a standard 6mm Rem at 3500 fps and I’m not at Max pressure. 6mm Rem AI is 150 fps faster across the board and the is most likely capable of pushing 55gr BKs to the point where the jackets might start coming apart! I really don’t see any reason to go bigger than the 6-AI if planning on using the 55gr.

If using 105-115gr, I could see where the Catbird would shine by having more capacity to pack in larger amounts of slower burining powder
