I have a couple of customized 700s, and Tikka's but I am thinking of building a custom SA hunting rig. What are some options? I see many different receivers but alot of them are not repeaters.

I have a Defiance Deviant and while it is a very nice running action, the bolt doesn't lock when you have the safety on. I can't tell you how many times I have taken my rifle off my shoulder to find the bolt open. Not a good situation for a hunting rig.

Define "custom".
The actions mentioned are indeed fine actions. But i personally don't think of them when building a hunting rifle.

Thus far i've built 2 on Mauser actions (usually commercial actions). One for myself in 284 Win, one for my daughter in 7X57 Mauser.
And 2 on Savage actions.
250 Savage & 257 Roberts AI.

All will hold minute of deer out to 600 yards. 3 hold minute of coyote.

It was just yesterday I was thinking of a 284. How is it with heavies in a short action?

In a short action with heavies, i have no idea.
I built mine on a Whitworth Mark X action. Donor rifle was in 270 Win that i bought for $259.
Sold off stock & barrel.
Put a B&C on & an E.R. Shaw 1.5 contour 24" barrel.
Heaviest i've shot in it is 160gr Sierra GameKings.

Do you carry it with a round in the chamber?

Almost Any of them are good! Kelbly atlas tac is superb! Super smooth! Runs in any conditions, budget friendly, excellent people!! Terminus is another great company, impact precision, zermatt arms, defiance, lone peak, bat, stiller. You pick which one you want they are all good. I have 7 different custom actions, love them all. My last hunting specific build is on a KS arms action and it is above and beyond my expectations, unbelievably happy with this action!! My next hunting specific build I think will be on the bat vampire!

If you hold the trigger back when you close the bolt and let the firing pin go to the fired position, the bolt won't come open while carrying it.
Thanks! I'm on the road now to Idaho for a hunt and I'll give that a try

Pacific Tool and Gauge has 3 position swing safeties for Rem 700's that operate in the same way as Win 70 safeties. I installed one on the only Rem 700 I use for hunting as I like to have the bolt locked up when the gun is on safe and more important is the safety locks the bolt back, which I feel is a safer option than just blocking the trigger from firing.

I have placed two orders for the three position safeties from PT&G and had them delivered within the stated time frame.

My next custom hunting build will be using a Terminus action. Some really nice features. 3 lug, screw in trigger pins. You can order pre fit barrels.
