Although I am not new to target shooting or to ordering and buying custom firearms,I own 4), I readily admit that I am new to the whole order a reamer for a custom build concept, and so I am seeking your input.
I'm going to build a new F-Class rig chambered in .284 Winchester. I have a specific bullet that I want to use - Berger 180 grain VLD - long sucker. I have a dummy round already loaded to the overall length that I want to use in my new rig,roughly .400 of shank inside the neck - with room to chase the lands and still have 1 caliber of shank inside the neck). I've got a copy of the Whitley Reamer .284 drawing designed for the Sierra 175smk using minimum chamber and tight neck, that is nearly perfect for my situation - I just need to give a bit more lead/freebore to get the fit I want for my Berger bullets. So now do I send the loaded dummy round and drawing to my gunsmith so he can order the reamer or do I order the reamer directly for my chosen reamer manufacturer and then send that to my smith to use?
Assuming my smith wants to order the custom reamer directly from his chosen manufacturer to do my project, and I pay for the reamer, do I get the reamer from the smith when the project is done?
