Custom Machining Unertl Scope mount

This is out of a 2012 Sinclair catalog, where the 3/8, 1/2 and 3/4" heights are listed under Davidson blank bases. I'm sure this is what Bruno has, since Davidson bases are all alike as far as width and angle of the dovetail. It appears the blanks were always flat on the bottom, to allow for custom installation. I suspect that the reason that 7" was the max length is the width of most milling machine vises is 6". Hope you can read the attached, best I could do with the scanner on a catalog. And of course the price is up from 10 years ago.

I ended up requesting many bids to manufacture my designed part. Got everything from $150-$1,400. Used an online machining service that bids the job out kind of like Uber for machining. I emailed some individual machinists for bids, but never got replies. Really wanted to see my design through, even though there were some options that were easier to make.

This is what the most economical option came up with. It is in spec and screw holes are perfect. Allows plenty of eye relief adjustment, height isn’t bad for target shooting either. The machined bottom radius is easily as good as some of the scope rails I have bought, it’s just not bead blasted or coated.

All in all I’m pretty happy with the way the part turned out. I haven’t shot it yet to see if there are any functional issues, but I’ll update either way.

Finally got to shoot it, and it works well. Machining must have been pretty good because it was close to zero out of the box.
