Custom die question

When custom dies are made from fired brass, how many thousandths do the dies size the bases? I am considering ordering a set from Whidden and am curious. I found on WTC’s site that their dies size between 0.001 & 0.0015. Is this the industry standard? Thanks for your input.

I had a similar question when I was contemplating ordering. I sent John an email telling him I was looking for minimal sizing, yet enough to ensure smooth bolt operation and no clickers, and just left it up to him. I sent him 3 pieces of 4x brass that had been fired using stout charges and neck sized only. I also sent him my reamer print along with the brass. I do not know if the print helped or not. I don't even know if they looked at it. What I do know, is that the die I got back from them works great. It sizes minimally at the .200 line, and the gun functions smoothly.

Hope this helps.

My Harrell’s works well at .002

Like the OP ; I sent brass and a print to John , and the die works beautifully . Proper set-up required , of course . If the die is made correctly , it can be adjusted to control the amount of "Bump" you require .
