Custom die issue

Anyone ever have issues with custom die from Whidden Gunworks . My .308Custom die leaves marks on my brass after resizing . I brought this to the attention of Whidden Gunworks . They asked if I would send the die to them with some brass from my rifle and I did that . They said that they polished the inside of the die and it no longer showed the marks on my brass. I received the die back and while resized some of my Lapua brass the marks on my brass are still present. I contacted Whidden Gunworks to let them know that the issue is still there . They said that maybe my rifle chamber had some tooling marks that are causing this to happen, however I can resize the same brass in my Redding full length resizing die and the marks are not there. Anyway has anyone had this same issue ?

Had custom sizer and seater made for my 20 MGM Wildcat.
Seater wouldn't reach the bullet?? Sent it back along with a dummy round so they could get it squared away. Someone must have been in a hurry??

Describe the marks. Is it just the oxide layer rubbed off ? I use a light vis petroleum oil for sizing lube. It's the worlds best lube. Could be the dimensions of your die. It's just squeezing the case body more at the location of the shiny area? The case is ls sliding across the tight location rubbing off the oxide leaving a bright shiny area????

Are you shooting hot loads? Do the Whidden dies make the case body a little smaller? Is there a difference in force to size between the 2 dies? The fact that your Redding dies don't create the marks indicate it's clearly die dimensions not defects.

Do you have any photos of the brass?

I do have some slight marks from my whidden, harrels and redding dies.

If your brass looks like this which is hard to see unless the light is at an angle, I wouldn’t worry at all.

IMHO it’s irrelevant.

Since those marks go all the way to the .200 line, I would use 600 grit wet/dry emery with a high speed motor polish both the interior and the .200 line, I think your problem is at the die inlet.

Make some sort of a tapered cone effect with the emery cloth when going for the die inlet.
Good luck!

Yuck - wouldn’t be happy with that either. You’re 100% lubing sufficiently before sizing? Are both the horizontal and vertical marks present on all the cases? That’s a wierd combo

Those horizontal lines could be coming from a fired case that expanded in those areas. Try sizing a virgin case and see if the horizontal lines disappears. Could be the die is doing its job and the brass expands odd in those areas.

The vertical lines is what happened to my brass as well. Cleaning the die (I only cleaned the new die nothing after), using imperial wax, running some cases maybe 50 or so through the die eventually gets those marks out. After a lot of swearing those lines disappeared after usage. Like breaking in the die for whatever reason.
