Custom Barrel and install recommendations

Last summer I sent my tikka to Douglas barrels to have them remove the factory barrel and install a custom barrel. It was done crazy fast. Maybe a 4 week tops, Maybe it was 3 weeks? I cant remember other than my shock that it was done. It was excellent quality. Better then the McGowan barrel I got the year before.

Douglas had no problem removing the barrel. Given the difficulty with Tikka factory barrels, I was expecting them to have to remove it using a relief cut, and thus making the barrel not usable unless rethreaded. They sent it back in perfect condition and still usable. I was very happy about that.
Dang , yeah iv heard the sako barrels are a witch to remove . Thankfully the one on there now is after market .
What stock do you have ? I'm leaning towards the bell and Carlson varmint/tactical

That's the exact stock I purchased for mine. Fit wise, it is perfect with my tikka. There is zero stress movement when I tested it with a rifle stock bedding gadget with a dial indicator. So I'm really happy about that.

Weight wise, it's what I was looking for for my setup. Meaning, for prone field shooting this stock is great (what I consider tactical shooting). I would have no problems carrying it a 500 yards or so to get into shooting position (if I were shooting on state land). I'd consider this rig a 'light tactical'. Although if I had built it with that in mind, I may have gone one step up in barrel profile.

For deer hunting season, I swap out the B&C and go with a stock that is a bit lighter but more importantly less in size. I use the tikka wooden 'hunter' stock in November. I opened up the barrel channel a bit and resealed it. Keep in mind though, I'm the guy who wants to walk as far as possible into the woods to hunt and will tromp through dense brush and whatnot to get there. My type of hunting is not really what you you'd use a 'light tactical' rig for.

The Douglas barrel I bought was #4 contour, Heavy Sporter. Which is kinda like a Bartlein 3B. So bought the B&C stock knowing that my #4 would have alot of extra room in the barrel channel. I wanted options if I were to get bigger profiles in the future.

Based on your requirements, I would get the B&C stock and the Douglas Remington Varmint 007 contour. That is nearly identical in profile to the Bartlein Remington Varmint/Sendero. If you wanted to go a step lighter, it would be the #5 Magnum Sporter. Depending on your barrel length, It would be fine to carry for hunting season for most places except very thick woods.

I should add... I switch that B&C stock between my tikka 7x57 and my 30-06 (douglas barrel). It's an absolute pleasure to do load dev and tuning with the stock.

I think I'll go with this stock for the tikka . I'm still trying to find the actual specks for the rem700 police barrel or similar . Possibly a tad heavier, not sure yet .
Ultimately I want to build a actual "real" 700 police on a rem700 action with the HS Precision stock.. maby cheaper to buy one lol as it will just be a true hunting rifle

Do thay even sell the rem 700 police anymore? I remember seeing one few years ago with 26in barrel . Starting to wonder about the price for one vs building one

"The tikka action might be a tough build due to not many people make aftermarket stuff for them . Wanting it to be a accurate, rugged hunting , light tactical rifle .308win" Really?

I have 2 custom rifles on Tikkas. 1 an FTR gun in a GRS Bifrost stock, the other a kinda PRS build in an MDT chassis. The barrel on the PRS gun is from Proof Research ( a steel one, not carbon) and the 223 a local Tru-Flite, Both have Tikka triggers. No issue there - they can adjusted OK. The actions don't need much work, if any.

I think that a few mins on Google will find a stock - If you can find a factory wooden one - great. Otherwise, they are out there - try Boyd's https://www.boydsgunstocks.com/top-selling-firearms-brands/tikka-rifles

If you go the MDT route, the XRS is nice - I have one on a Savage, you can use AICS mags. Tikka - via Beretta USA, can supply factory scope rings or Picatinny.

I'm not sure what other aftermarket stuff that you need?
He said he was out of the loop for a while. Maybe he was unaware of the development of tika aftermarket parts and systems that have come to the market in the past years.

So what's everyone thoughts on the prefit barrels with the barrel nuts (remage) I think thay call it ?
Seems like it would be easier to find the barrel I want made and could install it myself getting the headspace I want .
Anyone recommendation on barrel makers for this ? Would only require a Smith to do a little fitting on the stocks for the bottom metal
