Custom Barrel and install recommendations

So iv been out of the loop for a good while due to family health issues and would like to finish 2 project rifles . Come to find out the only custom builder and good Smith I know of in pensacola has passed away.
I have a tikka t3 action and a rem 700 action. I want a barrels made in the same size and style as either the savage varmint or rem 700 police barrel . I'll probably have to send them to someone to have them installed . Anyone ever used McGowan barrels and had them install a custom barrel ??
I do remember long time ago few companies where making barrels like savage did with the barrel nut . If I could have the barrels made like a savage I could install them myself and get the heads headspace I want !

The next trick would be finding a stock maker to inlet for the tikka t3 . I have a cdi Precision bottom metal for it (I'm pretty sure it's cdi ).

The tikka action might be a tough build due to not many people make aftermarket stuff for them . Wanting it to be a accurate, rugged hunting , light tactical rifle .308win

The 700 will be a 223 in the same kinda manner but more for wife to use on paper

Thanks for any help , chris

"The tikka action might be a tough build due to not many people make aftermarket stuff for them . Wanting it to be a accurate, rugged hunting , light tactical rifle .308win" Really?

I have 2 custom rifles on Tikkas. 1 an FTR gun in a GRS Bifrost stock, the other a kinda PRS build in an MDT chassis. The barrel on the PRS gun is from Proof Research ( a steel one, not carbon) and the 223 a local Tru-Flite, Both have Tikka triggers. No issue there - they can adjusted OK. The actions don't need much work, if any.

I think that a few mins on Google will find a stock - If you can find a factory wooden one - great. Otherwise, they are out there - try Boyd's https://www.boydsgunstocks.com/top-selling-firearms-brands/tikka-rifles

If you go the MDT route, the XRS is nice - I have one on a Savage, you can use AICS mags. Tikka - via Beretta USA, can supply factory scope rings or Picatinny.

I'm not sure what other aftermarket stuff that you need?

Lots of companies are making prefit barrels for the Tikka now. You can get either a shouldered prefit or a barrel nut prefit.

There are also a lot of stock/chassis manufacturers making stocks for them now too.

As for the R700, lots of Remage (Remington + Savage) barrels for them. It’s a prefit with a barrel nut just like savage rifles. Just takes a bit more time to set headspace but can still be done easily at home with some gauges.

I did find a bell and Carlson varmint/tactical that I like . Thinking about that one . Says it has full aluminum bedding block , drop in for Tikka t3 . Don't say anything about what bottom metal it accepts tho

Looking at the bell and Carlson varmint/ tactical for the tikka t3 action. But it dont say what bottom metal it accepts??

Might use same stock for the rem 700

I have a cdi Precision bottom metal that will take a AI mag . Just not sure it that bell and Carlson stock will accept it ?

If it's not listed specifically, then I would assume the aftermarket stocks are setup to accept the factory bottom metal.

When I've gone with after market for my Tikka's I switched to chassis setups, so no bottom metal and used the chassis setup for AICS mags.

KRG has some options as well. Not super lightweight, but also not too heavy

or if you want to go magnesium then look at XLR. They also have regular aluminum for cheaper but slightly heavier

Krg owners are my dad's side of family . But haven't seen or spoken to them in
many years.

Are you looking for lightweight? Going back and reading your original post, the barrels you're going for aren't light.

If weight isn't a factor then there are probably even more options.

Well when I said light I ment lighter than thay are or where with straight taper 1¼ in barrels
The 700 police taper or m24 taper will be light compared

Last summer I sent my tikka to Douglas barrels to have them remove the factory barrel and install a custom barrel. It was done crazy fast. Maybe a 4 week tops, Maybe it was 3 weeks? I cant remember other than my shock that it was done. It was excellent quality. Better then the McGowan barrel I got the year before.

Douglas had no problem removing the barrel. Given the difficulty with Tikka factory barrels, I was expecting them to have to remove it using a relief cut, and thus making the barrel not usable unless rethreaded. They sent it back in perfect condition and still usable. I was very happy about that.
