Custom ammo boxes

Does anyone make custom ammo boxes
Would like 50 and hundred count boxes that will fit ammo to my OAL--223 with 90gr vld do not fit well in any box I use.

handcut dovetails would look nice with some exotic wood inlays on ash or some inlays with dyed wood would be cool

I have the same problem with my .223. Too bad the manufacturers of the plastic boxes did not think about this when they made the mold for the boxes.

I use foam also in my boxes now but once fired they sit to far in their holes and have to use a pencil to get them out.
Love the looks of wood boxes.

@dabeechman was going to make some out of aluminum I think. If there was enough interest

Thanks,

If I can get enough interest, I'll make them. Plan is to have these features:

- Anodized
- Box lid able to be ordered with custom engraving
- Ability to swap interior tray with different diameter trays so you can change what round you want to store/transport
- Sealed with an o-ring to prevent water/dust intrusion

Count me in to

I'll order materials to make 5 boxes. If you're interested I'll follow up with everybody when they are ready.

Let me know what calibers you'd want so I can work on the models.

Id like one in a size thatll hold a 6.5x47/308 size case but the insert short enough that i could grab a br size case out. Dont care if the cases will come up too far or have excess “headspace” i never turn my boxes upside down or ill put another layer of foam in there for br length

These sound like some awesome cartridge boxes. As the OP first mentioned, I would also be very interested in ammo boxes that will specifically fit .223 Rem rounds loaded to a COAL of ~2.700".

I'll also add to that and ask if your design would fit a .308 Win round loaded to a COAL of ~3.250". As noted, the problem with commercially available boxes is that they're not tall enough inside for a given caliber to fit rounds loaded with the long freebores/bullets currently in use, such as the 90 VLDs in .223 Rem. Ideally, the box would also allow for a piece of foam rubber to be inserted into the recessed lid, maybe 1/4" to 3/8 thick, to prevent the bullet points from being damaged during transport. The inner height of the box would need to be such that the bullet tips would just barely touch (poke into) whatever thickness of foam rubber was used, but not so hard that it might affect seating depth when the lid is closed.

I'll be very interested to hear what you come up with. Thanks!

Had a few messages for pictures, so this is what it would look like. The idea is to keep weight out of the box, so I wouldn't have the holes as deep as a traditional ammo caddy. That is also why I have a lot of small holes drilled into the shell plate.

For price, I haven't figured that out yet. I do not make the particular release button and the manufacturers of it are quite proud of it. Unfortunately, it's the only button that I like. I would estimate around 150-160 for the box.Ammo Caddy v2.png Ammo Caddy v4 v6.png .
