Custom 7mm-08

I am new the forum and new to custom gun building. I have an old Rem 700 action that I am thinking of building. I am looking for that unobtainable do all rifle. one i can varmint hunt, target shoot, ect with. Also I want it chambered in something that I can sell later if I have to. I was thinking of taking my stripped action to Douglas and having them fit and headspace a 7mm-08 for me. Any body have any pionters or things to stay away from. Thanks.

If GOD be for me, who can be against me...

Nothing wrong with the 7-08, but if you want to sell it later, you might do better with a 308.

I'd go with a 308 , better barrel life
plenty of factory loaded match quality ammo out their
very easy to hand load for
better resale
and if you target shoot you can compete in a couple differant classes , like Ft/r

a 110gr V-amx run out of a 308 does amazing damage to varmints

No one seems to be complaining of Douglas. So thats good. Especially since they are right down the road. The action that I have is long. I dont guess there will be any issues chambering a short overall cartridge? What do you think of using a Mcmillian stock, making an M-24 type replica?

Douglas makes good barrels , I probably would choose one over a Kreiger (i like cut rifles barrels) but I've seen some fine shoot guns built with Douglas barrel bought off of clearance from Brownells.

McMillan stock are what everybody else judges by , I persoanly like Manners stocks , the sotck are as good or better quality and the customer service can't be beat

The M-24 is a heavy gun so that may be somthing to think about , but their is nothing wrong with building a short action round on a long action , it actualy allows you to seat bullet way out if you want to , things like the 210 Berger and so on.

My last 308 was built with a Brux barrel in medium palma conture and cut back to 16.5" I have it piller bedded in a Hightech Specialties varmint stock with na US Optics 1.8-10x44 SN-3 scope , makes for a very light weight package and is MOA accurate to 800yds off a bi-pod

Nothing wrong with a good Douglas barrel! My theory is that about 2 out of 3 are good. About 7 out of 10 Kreigers are good. These are the really good ones. All of them are better than 9 out of 10 factory barrels.

A few more questions. Do I need to take the action to a smith for Sqauring and truing of the action and bolt, or will Douglas do that before mounting a barrel? Also, the action that I have started out as 30-06 ADL. I want to change the trigger guard to the BDL (removable magazine). Is there any difference in the action itself, or just trigger guard and stock?

Hi
I have a very similar question

I decided to start with F class restricted, not open. First of all it could be more easy for me. Now I m trying to select the rifle.I want a rifle that could be changed the barrel easiky and get the 6,5 cal after. I expose some of the candidates:

1) barnard precisiom custom with .308.

it can change the barrell and caliber in the future and is a rifle able to reach 1/8 MOA
It cost 4200€

http://www.armasmasip.com/barnard.htm

the weight is at limit for restricted

2) remington m40 XB

1/8 MOA
4200€
In Spain is very difficult to change the barrell lengt neither caliber

3) Unique alpine (french I think,it dislike me)

1/4 moa
easy to change lengt and caliber
3300€

5)Custom kelbly

possible to change the barrell
3500€ (with a cheaper stock)
