Custom 308 Winchester Specs

I am trying to come up with some specs to have a reamer made for 308 Win chamber. Any ideas? I was thinking of .003 neck clearance with .085 free bore and 2.015 max case length if trimming to 2.005. I am planning on shooting Sierra 175 grain Matchkings. If I go with .002 neck clearance will I see any pressure issues?

Get hold of Dave Kiff, Pacific Tool & Gauge @ 541-826-5808. He's a well known expert and they are a primary maker of reamers. Tell Dave what you are trying to accomplish and for what purpose and he can suggest which reamer to buy. I've called Dave several times over the years and certainly many member of this blog have utilized his wealth of knowledge to purchase the correct reamer whether you are doing a simple rechambering for a hunting rifle or building a spec build competition rig. Great guy to talk with.

If you are going to use Lapua brass and you want to turn go with a .339 neck. You will get a complete clean up on 90% - 100% of your blue box brass. In my experience and from others I have talked to you want to have at least .003 neck clearance with a .308 Win and .005 wont hurt a thing. My reamer has .100 FB and I think .085 might be a little short for the 175gr MK. As far as case length goes I would give yourself another .005. JMO

I will be using Lapua brass

Agreed, my M852 match has a 0.090 freebore, and its a little tight for 175s.
