Custom 10/22? Anyone a guru?

I am about to do a build using all KIDD Parts except the stock. No experience, but from everything I have read, this is the way to do.

Bob

Looking for info on building a heck of a 10/22... dont know much about aftermarket 10/22 stuff..

"KIDD" is all you need to know. Everything I have purchased from KIDD has been great. I modified a Ruger 10/22 Target and the only original parts remaining are receiver and barrel everything else is Kidd except for a Fajen Target Stock. If I were doing it again, I would just sell the stock Ruger and buy a complete rifle direct from Kidd.

I wish that KIDD had more stock options, so I am going with a Barreled Action (with Trigger, Bolt Etc.) and getting a stock from another supplier.

Ah great... i started this thread looking into KIDD stuff then just found out their shop is in my home town, 5 min from where i grew up..

You can't beat the stuff that Kidd sells. Just one word of advice, don't start with a Ruger receiver for a build you expect great things from. My last one was built with an aftermarket receiver, McGowen barrel, Kidd bolt & trigger stuff, mix match of other stuff. You will have almost as much in one as a Win model 52 costs. Working the bolt on a 52 in a crowded varmint colony would drive me nuts.

Ever watch an old school service rifle shooter work a bolt in the rapid fire string? Poetry in motion. Some of us find an odd pleasure in smoothly working an original 52C sporter or match bolt. But apparently I'm a neanderthal; often the only one on the line shooting offhand while everyone else uses sleds on a bench with targets at half the distance. :-)

I always felt like the Remington 37 action was a little slicker than the 52's.

This stock is all what remains of originally a 10/22™ Compact, barrel channel opened up to accept Green Mountain 17” Heavy Taper.

Two of seven builds, four on Kidd receivers, Kidd innards, a 1.75 lb. Kit trigger, one a tad less than 1 lb. and another at 1.5 lb. Single Stage triggers, and a 3oz.+5oz. Two Stage trigger, and assorted Kidd barrels. These two as well as most me other 10/22™ tinker toys have undergone numerous components swaps betwixt ‘em.

I need to make 2 upgrades for next year. My trigger with the Kidd kit breaks at 14oz. Waayy to heavy after shooting the 2oz jewells on the centerfires so a Kidd 3 & 3 would sure be nice. Magazine capacity is another thing. This year I used 3- 10 rounders. Just seemed like I was constantly at a disadvantage reloading. For next year I'm thinking 5 of the tri mags but then it would take 10 times as long to reload.

It all depends on what you are building for. If you are building a 10/22 to try to compete with bolt actions, you are going to be lured along and teased till she breaks your heart. Been there. Done that. Ended up with a Suhl-based custom and was as happy enough till I converted over to CF.

I currently shoot a custom 10/22 build for bench rest matches.
I use it in all three disciplines that I shoot.
It has a Shilen 4 Groove Ratchet, Leupold scope, J N L PRX II Tuner, Custom Bench Rest Stock. CST Action and a Grand Master Trigger.
I have only been shooting serious competition for the last couple of years, and I feel like I have been holding my own against the bolt guns.
I do however shoot with a few National Champions and well all I can say about that is that they were National Champions and they are hard to keep up with no matter what you shoot.

Thanks for letting me talk about my build...

You wouldn't be mrs Chancon would you? The description sounds like one Joe made. If so I seen them at the Tripple crown. Best shooting 10/22s I've ever seen.

As well you should be, you and Joe have set the standard for semi auto benchrest. Keep up the good work and good luck against the bolt guns!
