Curtis Custom Axiom Review

There is no way I'd keep it. I'm not slamming Curtis Customs but it's not what you ordered. I'd never be happy with it because it's not what I ordered and I'd have a bad taste in my mouth over the whole deal. Matter of fact, I've not heard your whole story but I'd probably just ask for a refund...I'm a huge fan of communication and it sounds like you got none.

At least that's how I am.

You know I shouldn't have kept it. Here were my options, keep it as is and like it or start the entire timeline of the build over with no guarantees of when they could even get an Altas. They wanted me to make the decision before I even picked up the rifle from the FFL and before I even cycled the bolt. They tried to pressure me into keeping it and making a quick decision and it worked. That's my fault.

Now I have a rifle that doesn't shoot worth a shit and a builder with beyond horrible customer service. What good is an accuracy gurantee if you leave messages for a customer service rep and they don't even call you back?? They aren't going to take responsibility for it anyway, they didn't even take responsibility for building it on the wrong action. All that's going to happen is more costs to me in shipping, a ton of time, an me getting even more pist. I will deal with this on my own.

People say MPA has a good rep in the PRS world. I'm here to tell you not for long. I know I'm not the only person they've done this to, the builder I talked to about Curtis Customs had already gotten calls from others and they weren't happy.

I must say the only thing I really am happy with is the Curtis Custom Action.

It’s not shooting? What’s it grouping like? What do you think the issues are? I’m curious bc this is a new action / rifle and it’s not shooting for you.

If you can not get no satisfaction with the builder, why don't you call Joel and let him know what kind of people are dealing his actions. Tell him the whole story and maybe he can help with them. It's certainly not his problem but they are dealing his actions and his reputation.
Just my .02.

Very sad to hear this. I too, would contact Joel to put pressure on the builder as his stellar reputation is on the line as well. This kind of crap service will spread like wildfire through the PRS ranks. Why you would substitute another action on a build is beyond me. Especially without contacting the customer first. Totally unacceptable and very unprofessional in my opinion. Joel needs to nip this in the bud, before he gets dragged through the mud as well. Good luck with your issue and keep us posted on your progress. :(;)

Appreciated. I did not talk directly with Curtis Customs, the net led me to Alamo Precision. Sounds like they work closely with Curtis Customs and had some degree of responsibility in developing this. Either way, they were GREAT to deal with. Answered all my questions and addressed the concerns that I did have. The biggest concern was dealing directly with MPA if I had issues with the action itself down the road after what if already been through.

They assured me that I could send them the action directly for any warranty work in the future. That's customer service...and I'm not even their customer!! They had received other calls about this same situation and their exact words were "we all want to sell Curtis Actions, but not like this. We don't want the name drug through the mud." That's a good product reseller.

Sorry to hear it's not shooting. I thought MPA offered an accuracy guarantee... maybe that's an option to look into. I would say that MPA would not be my first choice for either their barrel blanks or gunsmithing services. There are better options out there. Love their chassis though.

You've got some good components to work with in the Curtis action and MPA chassis/brake/trigger. The only question is whether you can get the barrel to shoot.

Might consider bedding the chassis recoil lug and tang. I did that on my MPA 6 Dasher and it tightened things up.

Agreed on the good components. I like the action and the chassis for sure. Next step will be to bed the chassis.

They do have an accuracy guarantee but as it sits I don't think it's worth the time, expense and effort to deal with them.

I ordered a new barrel yesterday and I'm actually considering switching calibers all together to boot.

That's not a bad strategy. You don't even have to write off the 6x47 barrel, just demote it to practice barrel status. Something like XBR8208, thrown charges at a moderate charge weight and a cheap 6mm bullet and you could get several thousand rounds our of the barrel that would be good for positional practice.

One of my good buddies shoots for Curtis and he runs 6 Dasher in his. Another friend is going to build a 6BRA on his Curtis. Lots of good options out there for caliber choices, but I'm partial to the 6BR variants.

Sorry it ended up like that...that would've been my luck too. Live and learn, some of us have to learn the hard way and you won't let someone dio this to you again. Just an expensive and aggravating lesson.

Good luck, sounds like you're on the way of fixing the mess.
