Crown

1 less operation to induce error's. I use my crossfeed as the finish comes out nicer. At a 45^ Its on my hand movement to keep feed rate consistant. I cant match the gears!

get a hss tool that you can shave with and itll make the same finish if you stop halfway to drink coffee. No insert or brazed carbide will give you a good enough finish if like you say using the compound by hand.

Here are the inserts that will make you and them crowns you cut look good. They can be had on eBay for less than 20 bucks a pack of 10.

How much is the tool itself- got a link for that? If you look around ebay sometimes you can find surplus inserts for very cheap if you have the tool

I don’t have that kind of tool or insert so I’m open to try whatever I can get a deal in....maybe even a couple different tool/insert combos for the right deal....:)

The inserts are right on ebay if you put name and part # in. The last ones I got where 18 bucks. The tool holder is TMX
Pafana SDPCN 10-3B..

Thank you for the extra details. I did find a “few” on eBay, mostly from China. I put them on my watch list and will wait for Dusty’s info before pulling the trigger, so to speak. Thanks again.

Mine is kennametal On the tool and inserts so if youre looking for a deal it wont be there!

I decided to jump in head first and buy the inserts cheap on e-bay, the holder was a different story. I really like what I`ve been using with exception of repeated sharpening of the HSS. I only get 3 or 4 crowns cut before I have to remove insert and polish it. I see very clean near 100% shear free cuts when new, but must keep an eye out soon after that.

Thanks Dusty for sharing part numbers sir!
