Crooked AR barrel?

Hello,
I don’t usually shoot ar’s, but I figured I should have one or a few before they try to ban them again…
Got a new upper, functions fine, shoots everything pretty well, had to adjust the sight way left. After that, look at it at home, the handguard is straight, but the barrel is visibly angled to the right. Probably less than 1/16” difference between the gap between left and right side.
It shoots fgmm under an inch at 100 yards with a 1x sight.
Would you guys do anything about that or just leave it?
Thanks,
Ken

Is the handguard on straight? It would be a lot for the barrel to be coming out of the receiver at that much of an angle.

If it were me, I'd want to get the handguard straighter if it were just a matter of loosening and retightening something.

Take the optic off put a good straight cleaning rod on top of the pic rail
or on the side of the pic rail depending on the handguard configuration
and see what is off, if the barrel is 1/16" off at the handguard the muzzle
is worse.

I had a barrel nut/upper combination where the nut would make contact with receiver while installing the handguard. Would not of caught it, except during a number of shots the poi would shift several inches. Blamed optics/load work, until I checked the torque and noted the touch. Milled 0.035 off the barrel nut and everything is good.

If you don't plan on shooting it long range and it runs fine and meets your needs then leave it be. If you bought it as a complete upper or gun call the company for the hell of it and see what they say.

what kind of AR? A2, A4 type? Pics would help. if u have a free floating barrel/handguard then I would guess that the handguard is not installed correctly making the barrel look ”crooked” and require lots of windage adjustment.

Is under 1" at 100 yards with a one power scope unacceptable for an AR?
I don't have an AR and haven't shot iron sights in years but I think I'd be OK with it. Cosmetically no. And am I right.....a ONE power scope is the same as iron sights?

You need to make sure the receiver is square where the barrel extension goes in as has been mentioned. If you didn’t build it I would contact the manufacturer and have them look at it. At least give them a call and be prepared to send them pictures so they at least can make an evaluation. 1” with a 1 power optic at 100 yds is not bad.

I finished a lightweight build not long ago that had a similar problem. Ended up being the handguard. It was off ever so slightly causing my sights to be way left. The handguard had an anvil style lock so that it was basically a friction fit with two screws and a bottom locking screw. The anvil was the cause as it was slightly off. When you torqued the screws the handguard would go out of line. Ordered a UTG and problem disappeared.

Think about angles for a minute.
0.062" (1/16) at the end of a 12" handguard would need to be off square about 0.006" across the front of the receiver. A ding on the front of the receiver nose could be the problem.
Photo with straight edge along the receiver and barrel would help.
How long is the handguard and barrel.

I bought the upper complete, I also work evenings, so I’ll get pictures up later. This is the middle of my shift on break, sorry for not responding as quickly as some would like.

I was happy with the group using the primary arms 1x prism sight at 100. Not dissatisfied with that, but how much I had to click the sight over to zero it was enough to make me look at everything.

Thanks for the replies,
Ken

I have never seen an AR upper with a flat and square face unless it had been lapped. Betting that the builder didn't lap it.
