Criterion vs bug hole’s bug nut Bartlein prefits?

A good criterion barrel with proper load development can certainly achieve .25 moa. Don't think you need much more for f class.
Well at 1000 yds.the X ring is 5" diameter...with a .25 moa.gun that,s 2.5"...... at 1000....lotsa "F" class guns will do better than .25 moa.

I need to get out more:(

I’d be very happy with 2.5 inch 10 shot group at 1K that’s for darn sure.
Hard to imagine 20 shots at 2.5 in
Impressive for sure

I HATE WAITING! Yes, I am a very impatient person, so that's why I'm moving back to prefits(Savage and Remage).

I've paid the extra $300-$400 for shouldered cut rifled barrels many times, but honestly for a long range pdog(500-1,000 yards) and informal BR rest shooter it's just not worth the wait time to me. I've never had a Shilen, Douglas or Hart* barrel I couldn't get to 1/4-1/2 MOA with high-end brass, bullets, primers, powder and proper load development. I always start with 3-5 bullets and 2-3 powders to determine what the barrel like best. I primarily used Berger VLD's and SMK's and I always test bullets slightly above and below the weight I expect to shoot the best considering the barrel twist.

Last time I went Pdog shooting I had no problem taking small young dogs out to 750 yards with a Savage LRPV with a Douglas .243 Win barrel.

The only barrels I couldn't get to shoot 1/2 MOA or better in all my decades of shooting were shouldered factory button rifled barrels. Don't shoot the messenger, but they all started with an R. Didn't have the same experience with my factory Savage Target Action barrels, although I normally do upgrade them. While not the nicest rifling I've ever seen, the Savage barrels, most could shoot extremely well with proper load development.

*BTW the Hart was shouldered and not a prefit.

Hard to imagine because its never been done. The smallest 10 shot group is 2.6"

Thanks for posting that Alex

We re talking 2 different things here.... just because you have a less than .25moa gun...the wind, mirage and light has an affect... therefore larger aggs...

Yes and no. I know what your saying but .25 moa at 100 does not mean its capable of .25 moa at 1000 even if you remove all the environmentals. Its relatively easy to tune a rifle to .25 moa at 100. Theres are a lot less true .25moa @ 1k rifles out there than one might think.

Criterion (CBI) was my number 1 barrel when I had "Accurate Barrels".

I have shot almost all major barrels at some time and point.

Bartlein always shined for me, I have Bartlein blanks just waiting on my next build!

CBI was my 2nd choice, but

I agree....So.... if a guy aggs.5 shot groups 100 yds.less than .25 moa.... does he have a .25 moa gun....???? I say yes...
Bill larson...

O.k.... does a .25 moa 5 shot agg.qualify a gun to be called a .25 moa.gun.... I say yes.
Now...there are so many random variables that affect a group or score at 10 times that distance it,s mind boggling...

I call it a "Sub MOA" rifle.

Calling it a .25 MOA Rifle @ 100 yards is OK with me, just specify the yardage.
