crimping question

im shooting a 300wm with 190smk and 210 vlds. i use them for target and hunting but ive been crimping them and not getting good accuracy.i read my manuals again and they said not to crimp if no cannalure groove.will they still work in my mag when hunting?

I am sure your rounds will work for hunting. I don't crimp and my focus is loads for hunting. What I would suggest is running a test. A while ago when I had some rounds loaded with less neck tension than normal, I marked the bullet where it met the neck with a felt pen. I then put this round in the bottom of the magazine and left it there for a whole load testing session. At the end of the session it was clear that the bullet had not moved at all.

I have heard both sides of the argument and most people say not to crimp unless absolutely necessary. Personally I don't crimp my rifle ammo but I know people who do with and without cannalure bullets. Most loading manuals give you loads without crimping so if you take that load then crimp, you could be drastically changing pressures when you don't intend to. I have read articles on accuracy tests where the crimped loads actually outperformed the non-crimped. Its just going to take loading up both and heading out to the range to see what your gun likes. With what I shoot the bullets are not going to move forward or backward in the case so I don't bother crimping, just another step that I can avoid.
