Crimp on the .32-20 and .38-55~?

I'll br reloading both the .32-20 and .38-55 rounds for the 1885 Winchesters made by Miroku, and I don't know whether to use a taper-crimp or a roll-crimp. I'm also no sure what Lyman's "factory crimp" is. Which crimp die should I buy~??

Does the bullet your shooting have a crimp groove? Cast or jacket bullets
I was always told if it a groove roll crimp if not taper crimp but that was back in the day

I have played with both for a number of years, mostly cast.
The chambers on both can be so wide spread that saying on or the other is best is far from factual, at least on an accuracy stand point.
I can not advise using a taper crimp with cast. It can and will size a bullet down in the case with cast.
As mentioned a single shot can be used with out crimping. And, if it does not have a crimp groove I would not crimp.

Not crimping a Winchester 1895 I understand using the Holy Black but with smokeless I start thinking about neck tension worries, and wonder if crimping is just easier.

If no crimp, what’s your suggestion to close up the flare you applied to the case neck to prevent lead shaving when seating those soft cast bullets?

One can use a crimp die to just remove the flare.
I have seen folks bell cases mouths to the point of it looking like a bugle then crumple cases trying to crimp/remove the bell. Just because it is a “crimp die” doesn’t mean it needs to crimp. I recall some folks tinkering with some obsolete type cartridges that use the FL die backed off some to make a serviceable “bell” removal die so a case would cycle from a magazine.
Belling or crimping on a progressive press with multiple stations, one needs to keep case lengths in check as you loose any kind of “feel” of what’s going on.
