I thought crimping was mostly used so recoil wouldn't push bullets into the case in tube magazines. No need for single shot. It just complicates things.Since the 1885's are single shots, Crimping is the least of things I would worry about.
I was thinking the same thing. Does it make any difference that I shoot lead bullets too~?Defiantly avoid 32-20 case damage by seating and crimping separately with a Lee factory collet crimper.
Help with 38-55 too.
If no crimp, what’s your suggestion to close up the flare you applied to the case neck to prevent lead shaving when seating those soft cast bullets?I have played with both for a number of years, mostly cast.
The chambers on both can be so wide spread that saying on or the other is best is far from factual, at least on an accuracy stand point.
I can not advise using a taper crimp with cast. It can and will size a bullet down in the case with cast.
As mentioned a single shot can be used with out crimping. And, if it does not have a crimp groove I would not crimp.
