Cranked up the 6mmAR today

Finally got this thing in the woods today for a short session at 100 yds. but it was a good one. I shot a few groups with some start loads. 90 gr. BT Bergers .489 - 90 gr. Swift Scr II .344 - 75 gr.Hornady V-max .461. This was all new brass and loads were a tad under Robert Whitley's load data from his web-site. Glad I loaded on the lean side cause everything was warm enough. My throat seems a little, about .005) longer than his listed COL's but it must be a tight chamber cause I don't think I want to go any fatter with the petro. Hope to shoot it Sunday at 500 and 600 yds. and try some of the heavier 105 and 108 gr. Bergers. Will post the results if I get to shoot. By the way, I cleaned the barrel tonight and saw zero copper. Good job Robert on putting together a fine looking and looks like a fine shooter too. Stay tuned. Thanks, Bill

Got a chance to shoot this rig today at 500 and 600 yds. Did not shoot any groups. Having too much fun taking out pop bottles. This AR shot right along side of several bolt guns including a Savage 220 Swift, Rem Sendero 25-06, Rem Sendero II 7mm Mag.,2) Rem SV .308 and a Rem. LV SF 7mm-08.,I know. Not a catalog item but there are,2) of them in this part of the country) I was very happy with the performance of it in every way. Maybe next time I will try some groups. Depends on how many guys are shooting and how much junk they are talking.

Bill,
Glad to hear that it's working out for you. It sounds like a very interesting combination, maybe something that I'd like to build for myself in the future.

By any chance have you tried it rapid fire? How well does it feed? I don't mean like a bullet hose, but more like in the rapid fire Service Rifle events. I fully realize that rapid fire isn't what the 6mmAR was intended for but I'm still curious!

Billy, Thanks for the comments. I have been so wrapped up in putting together loads and really concentrating on accuracy so much that I have only used the "sled" single shot right now. I plan to mag. feed in the near future. That is what I liked about this thing. According to Robert, I should be able to seat my bullets about .010 from the lands to even touch the lands .005 to .010 in and still mag. feed. I will let you know how it feeds as soon as I try it out. So far I like it a lot. Thanks, Bill

Billy, Do you shoot in competative matches? I would like to hear more about your shooting, especially with the ARs. Sounds like you are very knowledgable in that field from reading some of your post. Thanks, Bill

We have three gents that have the 6AR that use them in our SR matches. They have had a couple, but not many ) feeding hiccups in the rapids. One was traced to a burr on the mag body, and I had one that had a catch in the follower that caused some glitches, I fixed it ). Best load so far has been VV N540, around 28.5 gr., with a Berger 108 .020 off. No pressure, mild load it seems.

signut, thanks for the reply man. I am planning to get some VV-540 soon. Most of my loads so far have been with H-4895. It is doing good. I just want to try the VV line with some heavier bullets and shoot some groups at long range. Did you shoot groups at long range or short? Thanks, Bill

My 6mmAr has not had a problem with rapid fire feeding.
Attaching a picture of five shots at 300 yards out of the mag.

Jerry, That is fine shooting man. So far, I have only shot mine single feed off the "sled". I wanted to get some good loads worked up and then start using my mags. I have shot all my groups at 100 yds. however I took it to a place in the woods that we shoot 500 and 600 yds. and shot some pop bottles with it right along side of several accurate bolt guns with no problem. I was taking out bottles more consistantly than some of the bolt guns. I appreciate the load data and if you need anything I work up just let me know. Bill

Got my 6mmAR back in the woods today and really enjoyed shooting groups with it. This thing is bordering on my 6mm X 47 Shehane at 100 yds. Sierra 107 gr.- .592, Berger 90 gr. BT - .355
Berger 108 gr. BT - .282, Berger 105 gr. VLD - .232, Nosler 95 gr. Ballistic Tip - .230. All were 3 shot groups but I wanted to be able to look at all five bullets with out cleaning and time was running short on me too. However, I am convinced this rig will repeat itself because I did shoot a couple more groups with the 105 Bergers and the 95 Noslers that were very close to the numbers listed above. Only a few thousandths difference. Anyone interested in complete load info, send me an e-mail. Did not chrono anything due to time, darkness) restraints. Will get it next time out. I am impressed with Robert Whitley's quality and accuracy and would reccomend anyone thinking about the AR-platform in 6mm to consider his work. Not only is his products very high quality, his customer service is outstanding as well.
I look forward to buying Robert's products in the future. Namely, a turbo soon. Bill
