Coyote weekeknd.

Another great weekend with friends resulted in 4 in the bed total.
The center one is my 36Lb male dropped at 216 yards with the 6x45. His hide in on my stretcher.
Days were nice, BUT way to warm & they were not easy to get to the calls either ecall or by hand.
All on ranches with cows dropping calves right now. Total saw & called was 19, most stopped at 600 yards out, due to most of them pretty wary with ranch hands shooting them also. On top of that the terrain is darn flat and you can see them 1-2+ miles off...thus they can see everything thats in the area as well.

Nice light colored dogs. We don't get to many at all around here with that light of a coat.

Nice! Good shootin too.

I was out searching for new prairie dog and gopher towns and saw a mating pair of coyotes down a valley. Of course they were about 610 yards out and all I had was my 20 VarTarg. Not really a 600 yard round. I'm not 100% sure where my load hits at that distance. Usually don't shoot it past 400 yards, but the wind wasn't blowing for once so I lined the one dog up on the bottom post of the reticle and let one fly! Not sure if it was a hit or not because it either dropped right in it's tracks in the tall grass or lowered in the grass and took off so fast it looked like a hit. Probably missed and it took off. Not sure though. Didn't go check cuz I don't keep 'em anyway. But even if I missed, it hopefully won't be bothering that rancher's cattle for a while. And if I hit it, well then problem solved and maybe a calf saved :)

Congrats on your kills :)

Awesome Fun on the plains.. Prime time to be out for sure. Thanks for sharing.

Like LRPV says, nice coats.. Yah, the center dog is a porkie...

Tell us about your sets?

5spd,
What bullet are you shooting in the 6x45? See you've got your dope chart taped on your rig. Thought you might dial those 600 yarder's up? Looks like you had a blast anyway! :D

This weekend was down in CO.
My load in my 6x45 Savage build is the 65g vmax in front of aa2015 at 3053 fps.
My dope chart is good to 600 yards, but the pals I call with want them in their laps so I wont shoot out that far to give them a chance...hahahah
Our sets were a mixture of wide open (can see for 2+ miles) flat rolling ranch lands to gullies and arryos that hide everything down to coyotes in the calving corrals & dead piles at nite. One of the pals shot one in the cattle corral at 1150pm on a nite set about 200 yards from the ranch house.
These guys were tough to call in as they are all eating afterbirth and taking newborn calves on all the ranches we call on. We used all coyote vocals, fighting/feeding/raccon fighting as regular rabbits were just not cutting it at all.

Lovely to see a 6x45 in action!
I used to own one built on a Sako Vixen action. Shot Nosler 70gr BT at 3100 fps from a 24" barrel using Vit N130 powder.

Great to see, thanks!
