Coyote Version of "Whack a Mole"

You should be good to go then as long as you talked to an agent. They get a lot of hate from some people but you are right, they are very helpful. My friend that is an agent had me read the book when I got my first thermal because I was under the impression that rule didn't apply to landowners or their authorized representatives. My friend is also how I got my written letter of authorization. With the amount of coyotes in Missouri I'm surprised they don't allow them year round. We can take several out of an area and it seems like the number of them keep going up. Thank you for helping to manage them and hope you get a lot more of them this year. It's addicting.

This is the portion my buddy had me read from the book. Then he gave me the letter.

Night Vision and Thermal Imagery

You may not possess night vision or thermal imagery equipment while carrying a firearm, bow, or other implement used to take wildlife, except:

  • To take coyotes from February 1 – March 31 in conjunction with other legal hunting methods
  • For the purposes of killing feral swine by landowners or their authorized representatives on the landowner’s property
  • With written authorization of an agent of the department

Great story and pics. Sounds like a great hunt.

Some friends and I have been getting after them pretty hard around here. One local cattle farmer's place is thick with coyotes. We killed four in about 30 minutes the first time there. Went back a week later and killed five on a field just down the road. A couple weeks later got two black ones-that was luck-can't tell their color with thermal. I have some cool video and pics if I knew how to post them.

I'm using my old xtc rife. 6mm turbo 40, suppressed AR. Nosler 70gr varmeggedon at 3320mv hammers them. Pulsar Thermion xg50 scope and Axion xq38 scanner. It's addicting and all kinds of fun. One friend has recently got the same thermals as I have and another a Pulsar thermal scope.

That's a lot of coyotes! They are thick as fleas around here and getting thicker. I didn't do any good this evening but had fun trying. I lose all track of time. I start thinking about leaving and I'll hear one howl or notice something I hadn't noticed before. Then probably 30 minutes goes by and it starts all over again.

Was at Whack a mole village last night and a yote wandered up through the cow cluster in front of me but I had no safe shot. Hadn't even turned the call on yet.

WOW, I didn't think a .222rem would kill a yote. Don't you need a 25-06 or something to kill them?

Just kidding,,, I love my 788 in .222rem. It kills well, keep cleaning out those fawn killers
