Coyote hunting near Yuma AZ?

So the wife is traveling to Yuma for work , I'm toying with the idea of leaving the single digit temps in MI and heading there with her. But what to do during the day while shes working? How is the coyote hunting anywhere within driving distance of Yuma? I know they are small and scrawny compaired to Michigan yotes, but it might be fun getting a few with the XP100 Dasher. Any suggestions on where to look?

I dont go that far south but i would think so. This time of year here they get skiddish. I went out 2 weeks ago about 2 hours from Yuma but only got one. Did get to see another runnoff. Damn think came from behind. Were getting into breeding time and a lot of them have been called already unless you really get out there. Most people dont travel far off path to call them. Another issue here in arizona is too many people on public land riding quads and side by sides. Scares them dogs off. Will you have luck? Possibly mornings or evenings. Its getting hot mid day here now. Ive gotten i think just over 10 this season and that includes 2 trips to northern part of the state. My calling might be over this season unless we get another cold front. If you make the trip i wish you luck.

Take interstate 8 east and look for dairy cows. Find a dairy and you'll find coyotes by the droves all around it.
Stay at least a 1/4 mile from any buildings.

A lot of the land on south side of I8 is military and off limits to hunting. Some on north side also. Im looking on onx and i would go arround east of yuma but west of town dome valley looks like some BLM land by there.

And to hunt anything in Arizona you need a hunting license.
Going east on Interstate 8 on the south side is an Air Force range, there is some land before you get to it but be aware.

I checked and it looks like $20/day or $160/year for non residents. Also looked like you could use any firearm, so an XP-100 pistol would be legal? Also looks like no night hunting

Lots of country out there to hunt coyotes in. I used to hunt south and west of Tucson and northwest of Phoenix to Parker. Shouldn't be to hard to find a coyote to call in. Onyx map for a computer will show alot of public land.

Something to keep in mind while you are out in the desert is that there are lots of illegals crossing in that area and even of more concern is that there are a lot of drugs being smuggled across. From friends who live in the area I am told that it quite often they well see bundles laying out in the desert with nobody around but they say that if they run across something like that they just turn and walk away because it is either a pickup point or the drug runners may be nearby. Just be cautious when you are out there.

+1. Not sure how it was under Trump's administration, but prior to that it was pretty bad. I spent some time down there between Casa Grande and Tuscon. You would have to see it to believe how much stuff is coming across the border and through AZ.

Haven’t hunted out that way, but have hunted south of Tucson and you will definitely see illegals and/or border patrol activity. Doesn’t matter who is in office, they just flood into the state. They’ve never given us any issues and usually hunker down in a bush or scatter when you come across them, but I would still bring something besides the XP just in case. BP has a hotline you can call to report them. Not sure what the response would be now, but in years past it often resulted in a pretty good show.

I usually dont stray far from home without a 1911 and a few mags these days. I guess I could leave the XP home and bring an AR instead for the coyotes but thats not as much fun

I was south of Maricopa a few weeks ago hunting coyotes. I did find stashed clothing, toothpaste, deodorant under a bush. Looked like had been there a week or 2. Had one come running into that stand we made.
