Coyote double.

Beautiful morning here in sunny Southern California. 54 degrees and solid overcast. Wind was light zero to 3 mph. I walked along the rim of my favorite mini Grand Canyon. I'd stop every 500 yards or so and call for about 15 minutes. On my third stop I got lucky. I saw the first coyote at 325 yards. (Leica Rangemaster 2400-R ). Perfect broadside shot. Big "Thawap"! Dropped light it was hit by lightning. Did a tail salute. I don't often see doubles let alone get a double but I thought I'd stay down and continue to call. After about 10 minutes I was about to give up. Just then I saw one loping in from about 200. No need to range this one. I gave it a hooty hoot and it stopped. In light brush and I could only see the head. Looked like 150, I put the crosshair just under the chin and "Thawap". In the picture you can see the jaw is broken and the exit is huge blowing out the liver and guts. The other broadside shot had no exit hole. Busted my but to climb down there to get the pictures. 6BR, 95 Berger Classic Hunter 2940 fps. Cheers Mike.

Nice job ! I need to get out and do some calling but have to finish butchering an elk and trying to squeeze in some upland and waterfowl before it closes.

Went back out this morning. Back to my favorite mini Grand Canyon, just a few miles north this time. Beautiful day 50ish. Sunny, facing west sun to my back and a light wind in my face. Perfect. Setup the call 50 yard to my right. Took about 10 minutes and I saw movement directly below me, 25 yards. Had to lift my head abit and it made me. Took off straight away at a lope. I couldn't find it in my scope. I have a Leupold 4x14 with a varmint hunters reticle. Well it's set at around 12x to get my subtensions dialed to my drops. So I kept watching it over my scope hoping and kind of knowing it would stop and look back. Sure enough it stopped just before stepping into the thicket, quartering and looked back. No time for the rangefinder. I guessed 250. Bang, thawap, flop. Later I ranged it, 268, good guess! 6BR Rocks. Mike
