Coyote 105 yds / Male

Dropped him right there! Those 40grain vmaxs were very accurate in my last rem 700 in 223, it was about the only bullet that rifle actually liked

I just picked up the coyote from the field. He’s in the bed of my truck. His coat is beautiful. I don’t know anything about fur or how to harvest his coat. Really a shame to let that go to the buzzards. Here’s a pic of I think him back in November. 2nd photo.

If there is a large fur buyer near you (a rare thing these days) you may be able to bring the coyote in to them without skinning it if you get it to them before the fur starts to "slip" ie rots. If you have never skinned an animal for the fur and want to look go to youTube and look for videos on case skinning maybe try this video. Coyotes range anywhere from easy to skin to a bitch to skin and I always western coyotes easier to skin than north midewestern ones. After skinning the coyote freeze the pelt, do not roll it up to freeze as the fur/leather on the inside of the roll is well insulated and may start to slip before it freezes. You can place the skin in a paper bag and then in the freezer, it is not reccomended that you use a plastic bag. Unless you have someone knowledgeable helping you do not try to flesh the skin and dry it as you probably will not get enough of the fat and connective tissue off the leather and it will spoil.

If you are looking to sell the coyote the current market may not make it worth your while or gas money, the hey day of high fur prices is long gone.

One easy but slightly pendy option is to take the dog into a taxidermist as is and have them skin it and send it out for tanning as they make a nice wall hanging.

Hope this helps,
wade

Stuff it curled up with one eye open, buy a doggie bed from LL Bean, Monogram it Wiley, put it next to your reloading bench. Best dog ever. No food, no chit, no fleas, just vacuum monthly. Always there for you.....

Skin it out. Scrape any remaining meat residue. Tack it fur down on a board. Heavy covering of borax. Leave to dry. That will at least preserve the pelt. Tan once preserved.

Yes, $100 isn’t bad money for a hide. Good bit of work there. I ended up letting nature take care of that coyote. Feel bad now that I didn’t have him skinned.
