1st is a Cerus Fclass stock, this stock had been finished by someone else then damaged in shipping. Repairs to stock and rifle were completed by Jeremy Smith out of Hood River Oregon.
At 1st glance the finish looked pretty good, smooth and shiny.
Then I really looked at it...
I blocked the existing clear twice, sanding and feathering the repairs to where they were virtually invisible.
Bummer, I really wanted to candy this stock!! Repairs are behind bolt slot and tang20230626_174418.jpg20230626_174607.jpg20230626_174627.jpg20230626_174354.jpg20230626_174702.jpg

Next is a 22rf stock for @Greg Brooks
I stripped a oil finish off this walnut stock using 80grit. I gotta tell ya that oil finish ate up sand paper like a fat kid eats cake.
Rootbeer and Pagan gold candy is fast becoming a favorite of mine.View attachment 1453392View attachment 1453393View attachment 1453394View attachment 1453395View attachment 1453395View attachment 1453396View attachment 1453395View attachment 1453396
The dark one looks like a true work of art Brett. When you polish the top coat down, do you use something simple like a Meg’s 105 followed by 205? And do you finish it with a sealant like Meg’s M21?
Also, is that stock not bedded yet? Is that typically done after all your stain and top coating?

I'd say it's bedded. That is classic root beer over masking tape, I think. Lol!

You never cease to amaze! Hope you are documenting your procedures and what works and doesn't work. At some point in years to come you may well come across a worthy student wanting to learn your trade who is willing to do the physical work it takes to get the results you get.

Be sure to make them earn the knowledge they will appreciate it more and remember it longer!
