Could use some help with advice on a trade for my 40x (early repeater 308)

Would anyone know if the early repeater 40x rifles in 308 would be worth a trade for lets say a Vudoo barreled action in .22LR or a full KIDD 10/22 build? I have the original stock for it "silhouette" type, and iron sights but i put this into a KRG Bravo chassis and added a nice 20moa rail now it can use Pmags which is quite nice. Just curious if this rifle would be worth a straight trade towards a Vudoo Barreled Action or full KIDD supergrade built rifle? I have had some interest from people with Kidd builds, asking to trade but I wasnt sure if the price difference would be worth a straight trade.

A good trade for that rifle may be professionally hunting deer or Eastern Elk! :):):)

Yes I apologize I should have put up a little more information, rating on the barreled action is 94%, small markings where the iron sights had to be removed with a lot of heat by a professional gunsmith from the barrel and action (original owner used red loctite, him being a coach never intended to remove them). The original stock has some wear from competition use, knicks small scratches which can be fixed with an iron and damp cloth. The new KRG Bravo Stock of course is 99%, barely put that on maybe 5 months ago. The receiver is in original bluing, has never been retouched or fixed barrel is the same in stainless I will not refinish the rifle. I believe the 40x is possibly an XB, slightly swept back bolt handle, jeweled body, and checkering on the bolt knob. It has a right side safety, lever type, I will attach a couple of pictures of the original configuration and the newer config.

Lol that sounds like it would definitely be a good trade unfortunately for me I dont hunt at least not yet, also when i get my new job as a teachers aid im studying to get a BA and become a history/English teacher I wont have that much time to hunt. School is fun, takes up a lot of my time, I thought that a nice built 22LR rifle could be fun to just grab with ammo and take to the range with my friends on a week when ill have time. We all can try a one day local rimfire match or something like that. I still have an original 40x in 22lr its a benchrest rifle with matching #'s from the CMP with certificate and a book on its history i got from a friend its more of my collectors item now I save it for my future kids lol.

I had a slightly older single shot (26 inch barrel) with the factory Remington 2 oz. trigger. Demand for it wasn't much. Finally sold the stock, trigger and refused to sell the barreled action for as little as the market would pay for it. It now wears a 6 CM barrel.

I bought a Kidd Supergrade rifle minus the stock (to save me the 11% tax) which today runs $1082.50 plus shipping. Would depend on the stock and condition of the KIDD build you are being offered. You would need to pony up quite a bit for the difference of the Vudoo based on what I see them sell for.

I have had someone looking at a supergrade build, receiver, barrel, and kidd trigger sitting in a KRG Bravo stock in very good condition. If he is serious about the trade I would do it for a complete build, but yes the vudoo or even rimx would probably cost me extra just to get my hands on. Lol never owning a KIDD version, I think it would be a blast to shoot small rimfire competitions out here when I have time.

I have almost the same rifle, purchased in the last couple of years. I love 40-X’s.

Saturday I shot a .22 ABRA 50 yard match with my old 40-X .22 with its original barrel and trigger, probably from the early 70’s, and won the match, shooting Eley match ammo.

Sunday I shot a 600 yard midrange F-Class match with a 40-X action, but Jewel varmint trigger, from about the same period, 1.25” straight barreled, in .243 Win, and it won that match with a 447/450.

The rifle like yours that I bought from a large online source - Griffen & Howe - I believe, was only about $1,100 with extremely good iron sights. Untouchable from scratch.

I’m going to put this kind of deal in the same category as a minty $17,000 Bentley from a decade or more ago. They are an absurdly good deal for the price being asked, and few people pay any attention to them, for whatever reason.

Very nice, the 40x's especially in 22lr are very nice for some competitions I've yet to try mine in an ABRA match I will have to see if any of them come around my area. Yes these rifles for some reason are slept on, they are very well made and accurate you have some nice grouping in your shots congrats on the wins. Well it seems although they are slept on, with my time constraints reloading, or going out to competitions as much maybe a topend KIDD built or other bolt action rimfire rifle to take out with friends on a weekend would be good especially with the availability of 22 ammo like eley, and wolf. I want to thank everyone for their help, your insights and opinions helped me in whether or not to trade for KIDD supergrade rifle.

I have a Kidd SuperGrade and a Kidd standard grade.

Top tier bolt action rifles will outshoot a Kidd or for that matter, any semi-auto 22 LR rifle.

You can buy a new Kidd SuperGrade barreled action and whatever stock you want for less than your 40X is worth.

I have the Kidds because they are functionally more appropriate than a bolt action for the shooting I do with them and sufficiently accurate. Kidd guarantees 1/2" at 50 yards.

Thanks, I do love putting them through their paces. You cannot go wrong with choosing the KIDDs in time-pressured practical matches. I have the short and long tenon versions and they are comparable to each other in accuracy and extremely well made. I have the straight trigger shoe on just the super, but both are the upgrade kits and that’s worth it. I do like the ability to lock down the back of the action in an appropriate stock, McMillan in its case, on my original KIDD.

In these guns, I’ve stuck with Eley Target. The time pressured matches are generally shot at a bit closer range than the benchrest and F-Class matches, and Eley target shoots far above its price point. Kidd’s are going to shoot in the class against custom bolts in the slow fire matches, as opposed to factory, which is their only downside.

I think that technically, all the semi-autos probably do scratch at least half of the bullets very slightly in the loading process, which from time to time I notice when examining a dud bullet.

For me, it’s hard to justify the cost of more expensive match ammo in semi auto’s if they are all going to create a slight scratch on the bullet. But having said that, there will be times when I amazed at a group they will shoot at 100 yards with Target ammo.

There’s another unique ability I confirmed they have, no 40-X can touch, but I don’t make a habit of it. I once put three successive shots in the air before the first of all three hit a pig, and it was an instant clean and humane drop.
