Copper Cleaner Test

I too, use two steps. The first with Ed's Red for the carbon...which acts a lot like Butch's, followed by Patch Out with accelerator, just as greyfox mentioned. IME, there is no cleaner that works great for both carbon and copper but there are cleaners that are pretty darn good at one or the other. Oh, and Ed's Red has been around forever...still the best I've seen on carbon and general cleaning, but it does little for copper.

Actually I did not know this. Thanks for bringing it up. I'll try the KG-12 next time and see how it really works.
I stuck a bullet in the lands once, couldn't get it out for the life of me. A 3 day soak with KG -12 had the bullet fall out when I picked up the rifle and turned it over. It was .003 thinner and heavily frosted. KG -12 works well, just no visual satisfaction.

OP.. Use that butches up on powder fouling... it's good for that.
Boretech and patchout w/accelerator for me

My last two big bottles of Butch's purchased a couple of years ago has a much stronger ammonia smell than the previous bottles. Maybe that is why I'm having better luck with the stuff than some of the members. I know on a Savage that I have since sold it would really turn patches blue.

CORRECTION TO MY PRIOR POST***

I posted that I used Bore Tech Copper remover in error,it was the carbon version. I since acquired the CU2 Copper Remover. I applied it according to the direction to a 243 that had been cleaned with Shooter's Choice. This is the only solvent I've ever used in this rifle. I used a Dewey Rod with a Dewey aluminum jag, aluminum brush adapter, and a nylon brush with an aluminum core. The ferrule was their standard one which is brass. I followed the directions and I was shocked by the amount of blue that came out on the patches, it was nearer to a violet color. I don't think that all that copper came from the reaction to the ferrule. Anyway, it appears Bore Tech's Copper Eliminator (C2) really works great. I have a Dewey Rod on order that has an aluminum ferrule and plan to do further testing.

My confusion occurred because I was given the Bore Tech Product by a friend to try. He gave me the wrong bottle, it was the carbon remover. When this was called to my attention on this thread I corrected the error and obtained the correct product. This 243 has seen considerable use so I selected it for the test. I'm curious how it will shoot after the treatment with C2.
