Cooper Warranty Experience

As a Cooper owner with numerous Coopers in the safe I'm puzzled by their new Warranty policy. I recently purchased a Model 54 with many upgrade extras. It was a used rifle with only 25-30 rounds fired, so basically "AS New". When I cycled the bolt found the bolt stop pin was broken and the stop fell out of the action. I was able to remove the broken pin and contacted Cooper with photos of the defect to request a replacement. They did in fact immediately send a new pin but informed me that as the second owner "NO CURRENT WARRANTY ON RIFLE". It's puzzling to me that a $3,000-$3,500 rifle only has warranty to original purchaser. When there is a clear manufacture defect I'd expect a manufacture warranty no matter who was the original purchaser. Just curious if anyone else agrees?

The original owner warranty has been that way as far as I can remember, and I have been purchasing them since Dan Cooper was the owner.

Without having to get a ladder out and get into my garage attic to get an owners manual out I am going say that I recall that is stated in their owners manual, along with a time limit of one-year warranty to the original owner.

The only issue I have had was a minor one similar to yours, I called them and the sent me the part I needed at no charge.

I am courious though as to how you determined that it was "a clear manufacture defect" when it was a used item. Even though it appeared "as new" cosmetically that does not mean that the bolt that it may not have suffered some abuse to the pin prior to your ownership.

The rifle might be “as new” but how old is it? And they did send you a free part..

Yea, I agree with the other guys. I don’t see a problem because that is their stated policy.
I own three, one is a special ordered custom classic that came in with a small Nick in the barrel finish that I believe was due to shipping. I sent it back and they installed a brand new barrel.

I bet they didnt manufacture that pin anyway. Looks like theyre taking care of you either way so thats a good thing. They didnt have to send you the pin after all.

Thanks for the responses, I agree "they didn't have to send a pin" they didn't even have respond. I assume a defect due to pin breaking. I have no idea how you can abuse a bolt stop but I'm not a smith. I guess I'm old school when I assume companies will stand behind their product. Thanks for the information. that's why I posed the question.

That’s normal policy for many items. The scope warranties with no questions asked are kind of unusual.
