Cooper 6.5-284

I am thinking about buying a Cooper arms 6.5-284 Phoenix. Has anyone had experience with their rifles? Can you use Lapua brass with this gun? Would I want to get a custom dye and bushings, or just use redding? I would get the savage,but I want to use this rifle for hunting,and the F-clas they sell would be to heavy.

I have the Montana Extreme Model 22 in 6.5 x 284. The Lapua, Norma and Hornady cases all work well. It shoots Sierra 142, 140 and 125s well. I could not use 4350 like most people recommend due to pressure. I settled on Reloader 22 as my powder and shoot some 3 shot groups at 100 yrds that are all touching. The Coopers are nice, not quite benchrest quality, an they will tell you that also. Good luck, I would get the Phoenix if I were doing it again.

Coopers are very nice for an off the shelf rifle, pretty accurate, nice looking and well made. I wouldn't mind having one or two myself but that would mean I wouldn't be working on my current project which will probably run about what two Coopers would.

Yeah, I use H4350 in my 6.5 X 284 but RL-22 came in a very close second using Winchester primers. Bullet selection is determined by the barrel twist, something to check out before you purchase. You might be able to order it with the twist of your choice, can't hurt to ask.
