Cooper 20tac mont.varminter nxs8-32 rings height

I have a Cooper Model 21 montana varminter 20Tac. on order. I want to put a Nightforce NXS 8-32X56 with NP-R1 reticle on it. What height rings will I need? Also any recommendations as to brand/type will be much appreciated. I have the same question e-mailed into Nightforce and Cooper but have not recieved an answer. I will call them if no avail, however, if any of you fellas have suggestion.......much appreciated! Oh yeah...I'm using it for Praire Dogs.

2 things: Nightforce recommends that you NOT use any "twist in type rings"....the Leupold bases that will probably come with your Cooper are not recommended.

I used Warne X-High when I had a Nightforce BR 8-32 on my Cooper 21 in 204. While I really like the magnification and glass it seemed a little too big on the pee-wee 21...IMHO. I've since changed to a Nikon 1" tube.

With a 56mm objective, you are going to need around 1.25 to 1.3 inch of height from the barrel to the middle of the ring for minimal clearance. The base will give a little height, but not that much. All ring makers seem to have their own idea of how high a high or extra high ring measures, so you will have to do some math.

With that said, I've had great results with Warne rings as well mounted on Weaver/picatinny style bases. Not sure what other base options they make rings for. If you use a Davidson style base, Kelby rings are the right size, and work great, but are expensive. If you stick with the supplied Leupold dovetail bases, you have lots of options. Just have to check the measurements.

That is a honking big scope for that rifle. You will like the magnification but I think it is going to be top heavy.
