cooling barrels while pdoggin

I have had access to a bore scope since 1990, water down the barrel has no ill effect IF you follow it with dry patches that are very tight on a punch type jag.

Have you ever thought of how much hot gas escape the bullet engraving and proceed the bullet down the barrel?

Iornworker, spend $3 on the part that fits on the oil can at the parts store, insert that in the back of your rod guide, you will be in business.

Does it make sense to regulate the flow of water thru the bore so the water does the maximum cooling?
I don't have a bore guide like the one in the picture. I'm leaving Saturday morning. I'll see what they have at Sportsmen's Warehouse tomorrow. I bought some small flexible funnels that will fit well into the chambers on my rifles. I'll just angle the gun down and be dang careful not to get any into Trigger.

Have not tried the water bottle. Wet towel and $5 battery powered fan has worked well, but we only shoot about 40 shots per hour. May have to look into a similar set up. Can't use the chamber protector in AR or semi-auto action, may have to make some adapters out of cases or something similar.

hmmmmm

Steve :)

I made a CO2 system for working up loads. I hate waiting for a barrel to cool back to ambient temperature especially during the summer in Tucson.

Tanks smaller than 20 lbs don't work well. The regulator must have the right flow to work properly. The regulator orifice can be made larger or by buying the correct regulator. Three of my friends including Dave Miller, the gunsmith, use this system when time and heat are conflicting factors.

If a person were setup for varmint shooting near the truck this would be a good alternative to running cold water down the bore. FYI I have a borescope and have not observed any issues with this approach.
