cooling barrels while pdoggin

Have any of you guys ever run chilled/ cold water thru your rifles to cool the barrel?
I usually just grab another rifle but was thinking of using chilled water thru the bore.
Ideas, thoughts, suggestions?

I know a few who run ambient temperature water (not cold) through their barrels with no ill effects. Personally we have always taken 3 rifles each with us in order to let them cool slowly. Opening the bolt and sitting the rifle with the barrel upwards seems to dissipate the heat a bit quicker. My eyes usually need a break anyway after a bit (I start seeing 3 sets of crosshairs) so it isn't an issue for me. Like I said, I know folks who pour water through their bores but I haven't had the need. They have been doing it for years with 204, 22-250, and 220 swift guns.

I've come up with this so far. Using a bore guide and I will use a shut off valve to regulate the flow chilled water.
I thinking about adding a "cap" the muzzle with a small hole to slow the flow of water.

I have heard of one person buying a "FISH" tank pump, getting a small piece of hose, inserting it in the throat so that it seals around the lands, and turns it on.

He claims it's the fasest way to cool a barre down with NO mess.

I am going to try this.

Sorry, couldn't get this pic to load. So, here's what I'm thinking..gravity fed from any type of plastic bottle.. Bore guide seals well.. 1/4" polyurethane fits perfectly in bore guide.

I've done it. No issues. Didn't overthink it, just opened a bottle of water from my pack and slowly poured it through the breach. Rifle is a 20" 223 and with over 8000 rounds on it will still keep just about any load put through it under an inch @ 100yds.

We hunted with a system like this for many, many years, finest barrels made. Letting barrels cool is foolish to think of when it is 90*, they never cool.

4 oz of water down the barrel, follow with 4 dry patches on on a tight punch type jag, dry chamber, back to shooting, all in 3 minutes once you get the system down pat. The adapter is available at Wall mart or parts store to put on an quart oil can, $3.

Used that exact set up last year Ackleyman pdoggin. Pretty sure it was you that recommended it. Almost 100 degrees and shooting a 6-284, I needed it. Worked ok, not as good as I would have liked but it was really hot.

AckleymanII. That is a wonderful arrangement and I will build something very close.. thank you for your post sir!!!
And thanks to Terry M.. for your comment about not over thinking it.. Your so right Sir,,,

I've got that setup, (not my idea). Seems to blow plenty of air through the bore. I also use an old bore guide in the chamber to get a good seal.

Water down the bore is an very good idea, we used it for many, many years, never an issue. Bill Davis recommended it to us.

As you use the tight patches to dry out the barrel, you remove a lot of carbon so your shooting strings are doubled at least.

That 3$ unit from the parts stores is magic for this application. We usually had cold water in the cooler, warm works well also, just not quite as fast.

The whole idea of rotating guns in 90+* heat is absurd...been there...done that....we had 6 guns each...none cooled

Sounds like your water was hot that you cooled the barrel with. 2 Liter bottles work well(keep them in the cooler) and since you use 4-6 oz of water, you cool it many times. Remember, use a TIGHT punch type jag, 4 patches, dry the chamber. Those are bore guides from Sinclair.

How many of you guys that say there is no ill effect, have a bore scope?

Here's what I have come up with..since I'm in the compressed air industry I have access to fittings etc.
