Converting Rem 700 223 to 20

I'll start out by saying I know nothing about what one can do to convert a gun to a different caliber. I have a Rem model 700 heavy barrel, .223 cal that I bought in the late 70's. I don't know how many rounds I have shot through it although I would guess 2000-3000. I was going to have someone with a borescope look at it and see what condition the barrel is in. It still shoots less than 1 MOA.

My question is what would I have to do to change this gun to a 20 cal, preferable a 20 BR)? Or can this even be done?

it can be done by changing the bolt face from 223 to 308 or swapping the entire bolt, then change your barrel. don't forget to have your action trued. restocking the barreled action is a best but your choice. good luck with your project.

You should consider a Tac 20 instead of the 20 BR. You can still keep it a repeater and you won't have to change the head size of the bolt. If it were me, I'd buy a different action if I wanted to use a cartridge with a different head size.

You could give Greg Tannel,Gre-Tan Rifles) a call--970 353 6176. He's done a lot of small caliber work.
