Converting LR to SR primer

G'day Guys

Just wondering if anyone here has converted a LR ( eg bushing ) to a SR primer. Looking at doing some experimenting with my 6.5 Epps.
I did give Bruce Bertram a call to see if could do a small run of 303 Brit to small rifle so I can then neck down and fire form to 6.5 Epps. He could but the min order was way to much just for an experiment.

Cheers
Rossco

The guys that put the .454 Casull on the market back in the stone age used to sell stainless steel bushings to convert primer pockets from large pistol to small rifle.

Is there an advantage to having a two piece case that provides the smaller primer and a larger flash hole?
How is the insert retained in the case?

From what I have found out the bushing can be retained a few ways. One way was Loctite 680 retaining compound which works quite well. The other was a threaded bush so the primer pocket was drilled slightly then tapped and a threaded bush was installed again with Loctite.
Lapua says a SR primer allows more of a progress burning of the powder compared to a LR primer in certain size cases, but also depends on the powder and have heard ambient temp aswell. eg Lapua 308W Palma brass has SR primer and 6.5x47.
Others have found with a SR primer and flash hole the cases can be loaded a bit hotter as well.
Myself I using a 303 British thats AI'd and necked down to 6.5 the powder column maybe to much to have reliable ignition, SR magnum primer maybe the go.
Its all fun experimenting.

People who perform this type of evolution obviously don't load 400 rounds to take to a National.
