Converting Brass With Berdan Primers

It is winter here in the northeast, and it is safe to say I have a little time on my hands, can you safely convert Berdan primer cases to boxer style,
and is there more to drilling the flash hole or are there other steps involved, and what size drill bit would you use.

Dean

Drill out the flash hole, and clean up the primer pocket with one of the pocket reamers from Sinclair international.

Keep in mind that there are two sizes of boxer primers, but 6 or 7 sizes of Berdan primers, so the pockets on your cases might be to large to convert to boxer - try one before expending a ton of effort.

Use a #45 or a #46 drill.

OK Thanks Maybe I Am Not That Bored. :o

Thanks Dean

IF you have cases for some of the classic Afrikan rifles, like the 577-450 Kynock then it is worth it, but it is something that you can get boxer cases for, then it is not.

You are in luck...

I only see 404 Jeffery as loaded ammo, I do not see any brass cases available, on there site.

Send them an email... they are nice to work with, and very accommodating.

Huntington Die Specialties has the 404 Norma brand cases. They probably have the 404 in other flavors also.

Why not just get Berdan primers and load with them?

I do this with 7.62x54R cases. I have turned a piece f drill rod to fit the neck of fired cases. I fill the case with water and place them on a piece of steel with a hole in it, the insert the drill rod piece and wack it with a rubber mallet. Out pops the primer! RBCS sells Berdan primer seating steams.
