Converting a Factory Chambered 22-250 to 22 Creedmoor

I videoed the whole process I used converting a factory 22-250 Tikka to 22 Creedmoor.
Any of you guys thinking about doing it will learn a bunch about the process.
It is not as simple as just “punching out the chamber”
This rifle had .005 of runout. We were able to get that down to .0003 or 3 tenths of a thousandth. By setting back the factory barrel and using a chamber boring method.

enjoy!

God Bless,
Dustin

Converting a Factory Barreled Tikka 1/8 twist 22-250 to a 22 Creedmoor. Resulting in a match chamber

Dustin,
Nice video. Can we assume that you are using the TBAS to dial in the barrel? Is that a JGS floating reamer holder? Just curious is all.

Nice video explaining what it takes to do this.

I’ve never understood why someone would do this. The savings is basically the cost of the barrel, your cost should be the same as chambering a barrel. A new barrel would stack the accuracy probability on the customer’s side for just slightly more amount of money. Seems like the old adage of throwing good money after bad.

Probably not something I would do either. But I know a few guys that have done it. I think they are in under $200 including shortening and threading the muzzle for suppressor use. The things that make it appealing besides the cost, is Tikka makes the 250 barrels in 8 twist, and Tikka barrels that don't shoot well are the exception.

Nice video!

I just rechambered one of these the other day on a REM 700 custom I built for a gentleman a couple years ago. He had less than 60 rounds down the tube and wanted to make it a 22 creedmoor.

Below is a picture with the 22-250 on the left and 22 Creedmoor on the right. You can see it's not a run the reamer in and clean up the 22-250 chamber without moving things like I have read on the internet.

I had to go .060 deeper to get rid of the 22-250 chamber and on a Remington that means you are cutting the shoulder, cutting the tenon length and boring out the boltnose recess.

I also had to time the old caliber stamp to be hidden.
