Convert Rem 700 to single shot, do magazine blanking plates stiffen action?

When converting a Rem 700 to single shot, are there any magazine blanking plates which will actualy stiffen the action? I have heard of others making their own blanking plates and welding,or JB welding) them into place under the action to stiffen it up for using bigger barrels. Are there any off the singleshot blanking plates which you recommend to be JB welded in to the bottom of the action?

I think most of this stuff was done in years before there were so many great single shot 700 clone actions. You can buy one from Stiller or Surgeon or several other great companies for $700-$800. IMHO you would be much better off to sell your Remington and buy one of these

The reason I want to convert this one is that it already has 2 barrels chambered and threaded for it and is already in my hands. It already has other blueprinting work done on it as well, so I would prefer to save the money and convert this one.

I use the one offered by Dave Kiff at PTG. It is contoured the same as the action, and increases overall bedding surface. I glue them in with JB weld or Devcon. Anyhow, I believe that they do indeed stiffen the action, as well as create a better bedding fit.

One other way to help stiffen the action is a bridge mount for the scope. It helps stiffen the top cut out and still leaves enough room for the loaded round. With both of these it should be quite rigid'

I'm a lot confused on this action stiffness thing. In old school theory that was a necessity to aide in accuracy. Now you can buy dual ports and even drop ports. With all the ports in todays custom actions, it kinda blows old theory out of the water. Larry in western Ky.

A bridged scope mount stiffening a rifle action is a theory that has not been proven. If the bridged mounts used both mounting holes at each end it would be better,but still a theory) however most don't. What many bridged mounts do however is not lay flat on the action thus bending the scope tube slightly when tightened to the action. Whatever perceived stiffness they add to the action is negated by the bending of the scope tube.

That depends on how you mount the bridge mount. Devcon filler is used and it basicly beds the mount into position . The screws are installed with locktite. The rings are also lapped.
Any thing on the top that will close that very large port helps.
It's not just theory. This works.
