Convert a 308 to ????

6 BR in a Remage set up, that way when you want a change just order a bbl.
One question you should ask who ever you deal with for a Bbl. is What is your delivery time ??

Recoil comparison;

308, 168gr bullet, 2,700fps mv, 9 lb rifle, 15.4 lbs recoil
6.5 CM, 142 gr bullet, 2,700 fps mv, 9 lb rifle, 11.7 lbs recoil
6 BR, 115 gr bullet, 2,700 fps mv, 9 lb rifle, 6.3 lbs recoil

For those bullet weights, up to 600 yards, the 6 BR would be the most accurate, even more accurate with 105 to 108gr bullets.

Beyond 600 yards the 6.5 CM would have an advantage in resisting wind deflection but not accuracy.

I had a 6.5x47 a couple years ago and sold it. I might be in the minority but I was not a fan. I felt the recoil (140 hybrids) was a lot sharper than the 308, I know the 308 has more recoil but it seems more of a push to me.

I rebarreled again to the 6 brx and I couldn’t be happier

I have a Remington 700 in 308, and really would prefer a smaller, lighter recoiling cartridge for competing mainly F-class 300 yds, but still capable of possibly competing at 600. Without altering the bold face too much, or at all, what cartridge do you suggest that I re-barrel it to? I was looking possibly at 6BR. Good choice, or is there a better option? Thanks guys.
Maybe I missed it, if somewhere you indicate "single shot" I apologize, but I think a question that needs to be asked is...."do you intend to shoot from the magazine?"

I'm in the same boat as OP. Have a Sporter benchrest rifle I want to convert to something in 6mm.

Northland says they have Rem/Age barrels in "6 BR Norma" - Is that the same as 6br?

I vote for the 6XC. The more of these I build the more I like it. Just as easy if not easier to tune a load as the 6BR and a little more performance for stretching things out there a ways plus a little more boiler room for the heavier bullets.

No, not exactly. The 6mmBR Remington is normally set up with a slower twist and a significantly shorter throat, intended to use 68-70 grain bullets. The Norma version runs a faster twist with a longer throat, and is intended to use 105-107 or heavier bullets. Same brass, but the throating and twist differences mean that they have to be identified as two different cartridges for CIP purposes. Same dies, same brass, though.

As I understand it, my 308 boltface will work fine, as-is for the 6BR, but does the firing pin hole have to be bushed, in order to use it with the small rifle primers?

Interesting. Northland does their own work as I understand it, I will call them and get the reamer specs for their 6br and report back.
