Convert a 308 to ????

I have a Remington 700 in 308, and really would prefer a smaller, lighter recoiling cartridge for competing mainly F-class 300 yds, but still capable of possibly competing at 600. Without altering the bold face too much, or at all, what cartridge do you suggest that I re-barrel it to? I was looking possibly at 6BR. Good choice, or is there a better option? Thanks guys.

6.5x47 Lapua - inherently accurate; same boltface; and will feed acceptably.
I have one and it shoots very well.

Good luck

To 600 yards? 6BR

Same bolt face as 308. Quite capable of competing at 600.

Off the shelf brass. Eeeeeeasy to load awesomely. Lots of great bullets, commercial off the shelf and custom if you want to try them.

If you were thinking of a little shooting at 1,000, still 6BR. If were thinking of a lot of shooting at 1,000, maybe something bigger.

Go 6BR. Shoot it until you need a new barrel. By then you will already know what you want next.

Would you guys suggest a Remage or regular Rem barrel? Any favorite companies for this application?

I say 6BR all the way.
Mine is a Remage with a Shilen select match 8t bull at 28"

One thing you probably will want to do is send the bolt off to Gretan to have the firing pin hole bushed. Its not a must thing to do but, I would recommend it.
Best of luck in your decision. :)

I turned my 308 into a 6 Creed.
