contouring barrels and blanks

i have heard that when contouring barrels and blanks you add stress into the material. also, can create a larger bore diameter. so then how does one contoure a barrel blank without inducing the stresses and changing the bore diameter? Brian

how can one tell what kind of rifleing one has in there rifle....

i.e....cut, broach, hammer forged. so on so forth. thanks brian.

Contouring barrels can put stress on barrels but
I have done many hundreds of barrels and never had the bore change from contouring. Now I have my barrels stress relived by cryo treatment but In the old days I used to heat them to 300 degrees for 24 hours and then let them cool to room temp. It didn't work as good as cyro does but it took out the stress.
