Contender.22

About a moth ago I went to the range to watch guys shoot IR 50/50 match. Guy insisted I shoot a match with his Stiller 2500 rifle. Shot a 242 8X’s on first target and 249 15x’s on second target. I had fun shooting a match.
Went to a Saturday match and they shoot match at 100 yds. I have been shooting IHMSA for 25 years and figured what the heck I’ll shoot my 14 inch Contender pistol. :D Couldn’t see target with 7x pistol scope but I managed a 430 1x
Now the wheels are turning, if only I could see the target?
Bought a used 36x sightron from classifieds. Went to the range on Saturday and shot this 100 yd group. I know I pulled the ones with pen marks. Need to work on bench technique.

Nice job Jay.I'm always amazed at how well a 14" match barrel will shoot. I need better glass on mine like your sightron. On my rear grip I make aluminum plates from scrap that one of the local metal places gives me. I use the same screw holes in the grip & same thread so I don't damage the grip. The plates might look hoaky but they sure keep the pistol solid and square in the front bag when using a wide forend.

CB0BB3A9-9D57-4C05-8AE6-C9DF4B438E69.jpeg I totally agree! My old G1 Contender is one of my favorite guns to shoot. I had the same issue with a Burris 7X scope, while a fine scope, 7X just wasn't enough. She now sports a Weaver 4-20 Super Slam.
I think this is the best group I’ve shot at 100 yards, but keeping them under an inch is actually pretty darn easy with decent ammo.

Thanks, but like I said, this is my best group so far. Cherry-picked, you might say. Would be tickled to duplicate it.
To the OP: Apologies for hijacking your thread.

Some very nice looking pistols. At one point I had a Contender in 6TCU that would out shoot all my rifles at the time. Fun stuff from a long time ago. :D:D

2F310FE3-4DC8-45E4-9CA7-33A8C8BED277.jpeg Shot my 3’rd 50 yd match and still learning bench technique. I was pretty happy with my 244 9 x target And then shot a terrible 225 7X

Scores 471 11x
459 8X
469 16x

Keep at it Jay; it will come together. I shot small bore IHMSA for many years too, with both a 10" and 14" barrels on my Contender, and was always amazed at the accuracy both were capable of out to 100 yards in both iron sight and scoped form (my eyes were a lot better in those days - scopes only at 100 yards now, lol).

@ndar15man

Ken Light manufactured several mounts for Contender’s, XP100’s, and Anschutz for silhouette shooting. Shooting silhouettes in the creedmore position the eye relief was to short with pistol scopes so this one moved the scope further back. I use to shoot 22 silhouette with this Contender and left the mount on it. It works perfect as it raises the scope up and back so I do t have to bend over and lean forward.

I sent an email to Brain Crawford and he is selling Ken’s bases. Ken passed away and Brain is now making the bases

Few weeks ago the rifle guys told me to go home after I shot a 247 13x with pistol. :)

Maybe it was the muzzle blast? I always get dirty looks when there are rifle shooters around. Even more when we go down to change targets and theirs tends to look like it was shot with a turkey choke. ;)
