Consistent Deburr and Chamfer

Im always thinking about my brass prep process trying to find ways to make things fast but also bring more consistent.

So when I Deburr and chamfer I have been using the RCBS prep station. Now my thinking is when relying on time and hand pressure there is no way things are consistent. Could this possibly lead to higher SD/ES? I feel it can’t help.

With that said I am going to set up a small drill press for this process with a stop to be able to have a consistent Deburr and chamfer for each case.

Could I be overthinking this, of course, it’s been knowing to happen a lot with me.

Does that tool work both inside and outside of the case mouth?

Just the inside, but the out side I’m just giving a swipe to knock off any shards. Not really over doing it. But hopefully a more experienced benchrest Reloader chimes in

Any time you machine metal their is always a Burr the must be removed
That is the reason a barrel should be polish before it is shot

All I have to do is make sure my resized sholder is the same on each piece of brass and I'm home free.

one turn to just break the edge, flip the tool and same with the other end, takes about ten seconds for each case

I buy Wilson trimmers used on Ebay, I set one up for each cartridge so I only adjust it one time. Three trimmers, three cartridges less than 125 total invested including the power trimmer attachment which gets swapped from trimmer to trimmer

Just watch Eric Cortinas video on it. Sweet unit right there. Fast and consistent.

I might be lost here but the ONLY time I chamfer is if the case needed trimming.( exception is when the case is new) No trim no need to chamfer after it has been done. Deburring ( I assume flash hole) Is a one time process when the case is new and may have a burr. I don't see how a burr is coming back.

Aren't all decent match grade barrels lapped to a sub20 micro inch smooth finish and .0001" diameter spread after they're rifled?

The best way I know of to smooth rough edges on case mouths is to first twist an Easy Out screw remover to dull the inside sharp edge left by traditional deburring tool. Then push the case neck on and off a spinning bronze bore brush. The rounded smooth inside edge won't scrape off bullet jacket copper.

You might consider getting a good 10 & 20X loupe. Be surprised what you'll see and it'll answer a lot of questions or at least arm you with good information to use when making a choice. I use it all the time, including looking at crown, rifling at the muzzle, brass, primer cratering, dies, etc.
