Considering Electronic powder dispenser RCBS Supreme or Hornady pro digital?

Looks like it has been a while since this has been discussed at any length based on my searches.

I have been kicking this one around for a while now & think I am getting close to pulling the trigger. Would appreciate pro's & cons on each offering & perhaps entertain another option as well. I generally load smaller calibers ranging from 6mm ARC to 221 fireball if that weighs in. Would either The RCBS or the Hornady dispenser receive your consideration?

Been just throwing charges for years. Would I benefit from the electronic dispenser? Would the thrower still have a place on the reloading bench?

Thanks for your input!

I use an RCBS Chargemaster, which replaced a dead Lyman unit. The Lyman, an older model, did fine but was a bit slow and often threw slightly “off” charges, which had to be rethrown. The RCBS works faster and throws very few “off” charges. You can spend more money for more expensive RCBS gear or even fancier precision gear, but I’m very happy with the Chargemaster.

I use my old Lyman 55 powder thrower for pistol ammo making only.

How big a concern is budget? I've used the RCBS Chargemaster since they were a new product. I couldn't imagine going back, especially for load development. If speed is a concern, perhaps some of the higher-tech options may be in order. You'll definitely find yourself waiting on the RCBS dispenser.

Budget is a consideration. Considering utilizing Midways birthday price.

Would it be practical or advisable throw 25 grains of a 30 grain load & let the dispenser trickle out the remaining charge?

I am not seeing any love yet, for Hornady?

So with the RCBS link vs the Supreme, would I be on track to suggest the main difference offered would be speed of the dispensing?

I sold my Chargemaster 1500 and upgraded to the newer Chargemaster Supreme. I'm pleased with it's performance, it's pretty fast and very accurate.

Powder measures are faster for bulk loads such as pistol and 556 plinking ammo etc. My new Hornady powder measure is much more accurate than my old RCBS powder measure, and Hornady has a newer "Benchrest" model that's supposed to be even more accurate. If you're going to stick with a powder measure, at least upgrade to a very good one.

I had a Hornady and replaced it with a RCBS Link. The hornady was not repeatable or stable. I thhought I did not need the BlueTooth connection to my cellphone but once I used it I really like it. You do not need to touch the Link with the cellphone connection. The cellphone makes it easier to see what is happening.

I preload for SR BR Score matches at home in a controlled environment. It eliminates the variable of powder changing weight though out the day. That and a barrel tuner has changed the game from the early days. Makes matches much more relaxing and I can observe the flags more closely in between relays. I originally had a Pact Dispenser but the CM is more user friendly. I would go with another RCBS unit if this one goes south.

The RCBS link is probably the best option at their price point. The RCBS Match master is nearly as much as an Autotrickler V4, and not nearly the powder dispenser.

i never loaded at the range but like you been throwing charges from a redding powder measure and trickling up for years. never thought the scale on a chargemaster ect was as reliable and accurate as a beam scale and no faster so what would be the point of spending the coin. was i right or wrong- dont know but i now have an AD 120 with autotrickler-- its easier and the main thing to me is it measures to a hundredth
(.01). dont think ill go back - mabie try the new coffee maker powder dispenser.

What powders do you normally throw

than either of the 2 units you mentioned....you really need to list powders you use..they do make a diff
LVR, CfE223, Ram-shot Tac, Varget, IMR 8208 & H4895 & Imr4198 are some of the more common powders I have worked with & likely will be doing similar in the future.

Then any significant down side to the RCBS Link offering?

Looks to me that either the Hornady pro digital, RCBS link & the RCBS Supreme are all likely to outperform my past throwers quite significantly. Doubt I reload much over 500 rounds per year. For my use I doubt ill notice a significant difference in any of these offerings. Me not being a App kind of a guy, they are all a bit over kill.

Think the Link is winning me over.

The current $249 on the link sounds like a good deal. Brownell’s probably has a $20 discount code somewhere.
